What am I doing wrong?

After studying 3 months for REG, I found out I got a 46. I wasn’t even close. I mean I knew I failed but I thought I would have at least gotten a grade in the 60’s. I’m using Wiley, and I studied off the MCQ’s and simulations. I’ll be honest I keep getting grades in the high 60’s when I took the practice exams but I could never get above a 75. Then when I took the exam, the anxiety attacks hit and I could barely remember anything. What study methods did you guys use to study for the exam and what was your experience with reg?

Hi Bladewing – First of all I think you took a long to prepare. 3 months is too much for REG. I would add in NINJA Audio and Notes to supplement Wiley. And get your scores into (at a minimum) 70s/80s before testing. REG can be tricky and Jeff's notes/audio simplifies things to help remembering everything better. Personally, I found Wiley a bit too detailed to study alone off of. I usually just use it for when I don't completely understand a topic.

Thank you for your response littlenumberrobot. Question, how long did you study for your exam and how did you study for it? For me, I did each of the MCQ's as often as I can but apparently that wasn't enough. Also are the simulations partially graded? As in you can get some parts of a question right and some parts wrong and still get some points for it?

Personally, REG wasn't too difficult for me because I do taxes everyday… so I only studied a month. I barely passed too, so I don't highly recommend that route entirely. I think a 1.5 months to 2 months will be sufficient using the ELL plan(Jeff's plan for 20 hours a week and not burning out). I read my Roger book, took notes, rewrote the notes, and studied MCQ. I also added in Jeff's flashcards for REG. Also, I believe you do get credit for the parts you are correct on, but not 100% sure. I rarely study for the simulations using the testbank. I just focus on the topics through notes/audio/flashcards and MCQ's. That worked for FAR, REG and BEC. It's not working for AUD! As I chase down my hopefully last AUD exam, I will be focusing on the SIMs more in my study time. It's going to be different for every person and even every exam. Is REG the first exam you have taken?

I used mostly Becker for my studying. I added Wiley's test bank and NINJA notes for my third attempt at FAR and that really helped me. I usually would take a week per chapter, so I would read, watch the lectures do all of the questions. Then after I did a couple chapters I would make sure to go back and review. I was putting in about 30 hours a week studying while also working full time, so I did get a little burnt out. I would always take a week off between taking a test and starting a new one. Whatever you do don't give up! When you are finally done it is the best feeling in the world.

Ya it was the first exam I've taken. It's frustrating to see that grade and know you've put so much time into it. Oh well. Thank you for your help and good luck on AUD too. Looks like your almost there :).

You probably should do some reading. I just started studying REG n I personally dont think I can learn by doing a ton of MCQs. The devil is in the details!

    FAR 83
    AUD 87
    REG 82
    BEC score pending
