I had this question from the NINJA MCQ:
Space Tech Company (STC) specializes in designing and fabricating components used in lunar and planetary landing and exploration systems. At the end of last year, STC reported the following data in its financial statements:
Total Assets $16,000,000
Total Debt 10,000,000
Sales 22,000,000
Net income 2,000,000
The debt to equity ratio of STC was ________ to 1.
A. .60
B. .80
C. 1.25
D. 1.67
I answered C because I took debt / (assets – debt) + NI from current statements.
10,000,000 / (16,000,000 – 10,000,000) + 2,000,000 = 1.25
The correct answer was D, which means I shouldn’t have included the current year NI.
Why wouldn’t I include the current NI? Isn’t that now considered equity?
Thanks in advance to anyone and everyone who responds!
