    Here are some of mine:

“In order to succeed, you must first learn to fail.” (Michael Jordan – I know others have said it too).

“Of course it’s hard. If it were easy, everyone would do it. It’s the hard that makes it great.” (Tom Hanks – A League of Their Own)

“I’m gonna be what I set out to be. Without a doubt, undoubtedly. And all those who look down on me, I’m tearin’ down your balcony.” (Eminem – Not Afraid Lyrics)

During my Mom's funeral I was asked about the CPA exam by a cousin…I told him that I don't know how I will be able to dig deep enough to get this part done. He said ” I've never know you to do anything half-A$$#@”. I keep trying to draw from that.

For those that didn't quite make the hurdle this time, I like Winston Churchill's quote:

“Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm”.

Also, not a quote but it comes from Howard Wasdin's book, Seal Team Six. If you haven't read it, you should when you are done with the CPA or while on a break.

I was reading this book when I was laid off with 30% of my company (while on vacation no less). I was dismayed but I drew back to the book as the author was telling of the battle of mogadishu. He was driving a humvee with several men in it, one had been shot through the hand and another was laying in the bottom of the jeep having been severely wounded–I want to say in the gut. The men were driving around lost and repeating streets—with people firing at them from above right down into the humvee. The man laying in the bottom of the humvee, despite being critically wounded, was still loading magazines with ammo. Even after being shot more times while laying in the bottom of the jeep he kept feeding the men magazines.

That really made me think…no matter what my circumstances, I want to be that guy feeding ammo. Not that the man shot in the hand was wrong or defective, he was responding to his body's fear meter. But when times get tough and I want to quit….even when I have good reasons to quit….I want to be that person who doesn't quit. In fact, that's our family motto….never quit!

I must have a hundred of these lol…

“Four short words sum up what has lifted most successful individuals above the crowd: a little bit more. They did all that was expected of them and a little bit more.”

“Nothing of great value in life comes easily. The gold that has the greatest value lies deepest in the earth, as do the diamonds.”

“The highest reward for effort is not what you get for it, but what you become by it.”

“Conquering any difficulty always gives one a secret joy, for it means pushing back a boundary line. “

“There is no elevator to success. Only stairs.”

@CPApending I second your thoughts on Seal Team Six. A SEAL saying that applies here is “the only easy day was yesterday.” I'd also compare the CPA exam process to BUD/s in terms of the commitment and variety of abilities that must be applied over an extended period of time to pass.

“We're sorry, we cannot hire you because you do not have a CPA. So you and your family will have to starve.”

I don't know about you, but that is a most motivating quote.

@Texas27…that is what I exactly what I did when I am so tired of studying. I wrote my name and CPA at that end multiple times. Once I did that, I went back to study right away! Another good quote is

“Start, the rest is easy” I got this one from a fortune cookie.

“You’ve heard it over and over: “Learn from your mistakes.” Or maybe you’ve heard “fail early and often.” There are plenty of catchy quotes about failure. Most of them end with a clever little twist that makes it sound like it’s a good thing. Is it?

I don’t understand the cultural fascination with failure being the source of great lessons to be learned. What did you learn? You learned what didn’t work. Now you won’t make the same mistake twice, but you’re just as likely to make a different mistake next time. You might know what won’t work, but you still don’t know what will work. That’s not much of a lesson.

Instead, put most of your energy into studying your successes. What have you done right? What worked? Why did it work? How you can repeat it? Instead of making something worse a little better, how about making something good a little better? Don’t spend so much time looking down. Look up more.”

My quote is from the intellectual 50 Cent. “Get rich or die tryin” I have reworded it to fit the CPA exam: “Pass the CPA exam or die tryin.” This gives outsiders, as well as myself a perspective on how I feel despite the failing scores.

I don't necessarily have any quotes per se, but what really stuck with me was the logic that was preached by Peter Olinto in the becker lectures. He would always harp on the fact that is is insane to work in the accounting profession and not get certified. If you are going to put in the hours and effort in your job, why would you not maximize your earning potential?
