in audit you take vacation and come back and do interim planning testing

in tax you would take vacation and do extension, fiscal year end clients, state stuff, and possible book keeping depending on client/firm.

Well I'm working on foundation returns at the moment. After 5/15 I'll start working on returns that were extended but that we have almost everything needed to complete the return. I'm sure I'll be responding to notices and IRS audits. Then its second quarter estimates. Then its August and time to get back in busy season mode. I feel like it always bisy though just don't have to work overtime.

Payroll return deadline 4/30, 7/31, 10/31, Non profit deadline 5/15, fiscal year client deadlines, extension deadlines 9/15, 10/15, 11/15. Audits, comps, reviews mixed in. Bookkeeping help, projections, various other admin stuff.

Wish I could sit around and screw off all day, but that ain't happening.

Well said. Most people think being in tax we only work from January 1st until April 15th. I personally find it hard to take time off in the summer with so much work to do. If you fail to get enough done in the summer, fall becomes a nightmare.

“in audit you take vacation and come back and do interim planning testing”

That's basically true if you have one main client. Otherwise:

-Go to the next busy season if you get placed on an off-year end client or if your client has multiple report dates

-Go to the next busy season if you get placed on an IPO or Special Project

    -Quarter reviews

-Finish audit of private companies with a 12/31 year end (currently doing)

    -Quit and go to industry

Busy season is over? Where? When? Did I miss it? LOL I'm running on 2 hours of sleep and it ain't letting up any time soon. I still have a ton of returns on extension, 4 audits (2 are due May 31st and 2 on June 30th), then I can start catching up on all of the day to day stuff that got put on hold until after April 15th.
