I read some post from people who take the exam this month, and the mayority said is the worst exam. What happens, is the material of study???? I read experience from people who said Becker don’t cover all material required for the exam???

The worst disease in the world is fear, and I am AFRAID of it..80/

Well I'll let you know in about 24 hours. I know many people have said that Becker isn't the best for BEC but I am going in with a positive attitude. I can't imagine that if you knew every in and out of the material in Becker that you would walk out of the exam with less than a 75… and if that's the case well than someone needs to write a letter 🙂

I am going in confident. I think if you put the time into studying you should be fine. If your skeptical… buy Jeff's Ninja notes to supplement or use the WTB for extra MCQ practice.

I took BEC in february and didn't pass it- and I take it again tomorrow…. it is SUPER difficult because of the material. It covers topics that most accounting majors are unfamiliar with– like IT and economics, cost accounting and management. If you are well versed in those subjects you will be fine, if not, then you will need to study. I have studied like a crazy person for tomorrows test and pray to God that I pass it this time around. I am nervous but feel very prepared.

BEC is not to be taken lightly although some will tell you it was easy — those people usually have IT degrees or majored in Economics etc… for most accountants, BEC is very difficult– and many CPA's have told me it was the only test they failed.

You people are freaking me out. With a week to go, all these things as Peter would say are distractors. @vanadium3

thank you for the feedback. Looks like you survived. I am looking forward to you feedback after a night of sleep and you reflecting on your exam experience.

@bcjasper09 & KatieM, good luck to you guys you are going to HIYA BEC. Please come back and let us know how the adventure turned out. I am using Becker I cannot afford the distractors. I need to focus.

I know I am suppose to study everything but with a week to go any help will be appreciated.

    Good night and bonne chance!!!!

It is a tough exam because the topics are so unrelated. I think I got lucky but what seemed to help me the most was I spent my last few days just writing and rewriting formulas. I knew all the variance, decision making, stock, etc formulas like the back of my hand going into the exam. CRIME and PHRASED for me was all about understanding each one individually and then working lots of MC to deepen the understanding and see the ways the ideas would be tested.

Like I said, I know I got lucky because I got a 75 AND cost accounting was by far my worst subject in undergrad. I thought this section could be harder for me than any other test. If I can get a 75 you guys who have studied hard can do it too. Know those formulas!

@bcjasper09 – please let us know how it goes. I take BEC on 5/28 and these discussion threads have made me very nervous. I'm also using Becker, so your insight is appreciated. Thanks!

Love all the positive feedback for BEC! Well I'm taking it this morning. Its go time, kids. I know the formulas and plan to have the last thing I do before the exam is cram those formulas into my head only to “brain dumb” them on the exam. I will be sure to let you guys know how this puppy goes! Also, W2 SCORES ARE RELEASED TODAY! I'm probably going to turn my phone, email, and internet off before my exam so I'm not tempted to look.

See you on the other side!

@whitelilies I will also be taking BEC on 5/28. I'll take comfort in knowing that somewhere out in this great big world is another CPA candidate also crying in front of a computer questioning their desire to become a CPA.

My plan of attack for the final review is to hit the flash cards hard and to pick apart MCQs with formulas in them. A couple weeks ago I was regretting my decision to work part time in a non-accounting field, but considering that it has given me a grasp on IT, it was the best decision ever!

For those that have/are studying for BEC using Becker, I primarily intend to focus my review on the first three chapters. Do you think that is a good idea? I don't recall there being many formulas in the last three – just more principle. I won't spend much time on my strong areas: writing, economics, and IT. I might just spend two days reviewing those parts.

@jnnthom study EVERYTHING. Of course, if you are weak in specific areas, give strict attention to better your understanding, but my experience with the BEC exam was pretty broad, no one area was covered more than another and I feel everything was touched upon, so it is important not to ignore anything, you just have no way of knowing what will pop up on your exam.

In B6 there are a few formulas about interest rates, etc. I know those are the only ones that sometimes stump me. The others I've got down pretty well. I wish IT was my strong area. I'm a Gen X and I feel like this stuff is wayyyy over my head sometimes. I've got down what I hope is enough to pass.

Honestly, if I did not pass, I don't think I would blame Becker saying it wasn't enough. I think Becker was sufficient as far as the information they covered. During the last few of studying before my exam I tacked on WTB question and and worked through some CPA Review For Free (which after taking the exam, don't think those were as helpful as Becker and WTB) for variety. WTB had similar questions, but did offer some different ones that were beneficial to work through. So I would say feel comfortable with Becker as far as the topics covered and relevance of their MCQ's and information. But of course, it never hurts to work through as many different MCQ's you can vs. the same one's over and over, so supplementing with additional questions is a bonus. I also had NINJA notes which was a good pre-written summary of information. Very little in the notes was unfamilar and for the most part, all of the info was covered in Becker.

So: You just made my day. I'm taking this thing this afternoon and I just want to get it over with. Thank you for the uplifting guidance on Becker's preparation for the exam. I also worked through WTB a couple days ago and I liked the variety they provided. Overall, I think at this point I am as ready as I'm going to be. I just wish it was 2:30 so I could take it and get it over with.
