What should I expect for a small firm's entry-level salary in NJ?

Robert Half and other websites are all over the place with their numbers, anyone care to chime in? I’ve passed all my exams and I’m finishing up an internship. My job would entail audit, tax, payroll, forensic, etc.; a bit of everything. What can I reasonably expect when I sit down for my offer?

$60k is probably a stretch, but may be possible. Although, in general- $40k-$60k sounds about right.

It really depends on the firm. Some small firms pay very well and some pay isht.

If it's too low, just counter. If you are doing an internship with that firm, they may oblige. Just be reasonable, do your homework, and don't take it personal if the partner tells you to bugger off.

How small? One office, ten offices?

For one office mom and pop shop I'd say starting around 53-55k

    AUD - July 2014 - 76
    REG - August 2014 - 82
    FAR - November 2014 - 78
    BEC - January 2015 - 81

    DONE!!!!

Used Becker online. Who needs a text when you can burn your eyes out staring at the screen for months on end?

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you're hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"

I would repeat $40-$60 in public. Closer to higher range if big 4, lower range in smaller accounting firms.

    Far: 76 (Wiley Test Bank)
    Aud: 77 (Wiley Test Bank)
Reg: 61, 76 (Wiley book, Wiley Test Bank)
    Bec: 86 (Wiley Test Bank)

    MBA in progress

I think 50+ is a bit high for a mom and pop… at least in Northwest NJ.

go2134 – is the company so small that they wouldn't have any salaries on glassdoor?

    BEC - 80
    AUD - 64, 75 - credit lost, 90!!
    REG - 73, 74, 83
    FAR - 61, 72, 85

Feels good finishing on my best note. Time to watch the mailbox.

It's a 1 office firm with about 15 people working there. 3 partners.

You guys are killing me with some of these numbers. I was hoping for them to be competitive with Big4

A relative of mine just got an offer from a 1 office firm, 20 people working, and 5 partners in Baltimore doing both audit and tax. The offer was a flat $50k.

That is competitive with Big 4. Big 4 starts you at roughly 56k in Boston/New York/Chicago (bigger cities) and a little less in more rural areas. 5k bonus for passing exam and reimburse you for sitting for parts 1 time. You don't make the big money in Big 4 until promotions come.

    FAR (Q2 2015) - 85
    REG (Q3 2015) - 80
    BEC (Q3 2015) - 82
