Ok, so I failed AUD with a 71. My NTS for BEC expires 4/16. I work full time at a public accounting firm. What would you do in this situation. Retake AUD in January while its still somewhat fresh on the mind OR go ahead and study for BEC and attempt that. I really doubt I’ll get much studying in during my first tax season. Just looking for a little guidance, thanks!

I would say pretend the expiring NTS doesn't exist. Which test would you want to take in January? Take BEC if you would have taken it anyways, but I think it is worth spending a little extra money if you really want to take Audit again. But if the budget is too tight(I have a toddler and a baby, so I'm not sure I'd be able to fork over the extra money), then maybe take BEC.

    Do what's best for you!

    Audit(11/5/13) - 89
    Reg(5/16/14) - 86
    FAR(7/18/14) - 82
    BEC(11/14) - 85

As a person in the same exact boat (change BEC to REG), I pushed REG to 4/3 and plan to take AUD again in January. Taking it while it is still fresh in my mind is more beneficial to me and I will just have to study during busy season for REG.

    FAR - 75 expires 4/30/17
    AUD - 71, 89 expires 11/30/17
    REG - TBD
    BEC - TBD

Take Aud ASAP (Jan 1 if possible), while it is fresh, giving you 6-8 weeks to study for BEC in late Feb. You may just want to do a light review for the re-take, then have an intense review phase but I wouldn't start from the beginning.

    CPA (2017)

    REG:  75

    BEC:  76

    FAR:  77

    AUD: 78

    CMA (2019)

    P1: 380

    P2: 360

    AUD - 1st - 60 (12/12), 61 (2/13), 61 (8/13), 78! (11/15)
    REG - 55 (2/16) 69 (5/16) Retake(8/16)
    BEC - 71(5/16) Retake (9/16)
    FAR - (8/16)

just a general question: can OP get another NTS that is for an EARLIER test date than the NTS he already has for another section?

that would mean the first NTS with two sections on it is being used after the second NTS? is that possible?

Thanks zoctoman, I think that's what I'm going to do.

Wannabe, at least you'll be doing some tax work, that should help prepare you for REG. Good luck with your retake!

Eestie- I'm sure its fine as long as they get their money.

Based on the rules in GA, not sure about where OP is, I don't see the issue. The NTS is good for 6 months and you can't have two open NTS for the same section, so it should just be a matter of applying for the new NTS and picking the exam date. There would be the option of taking it sooner or later than the first NTS.

At least, that is my understanding and exactly what i'm trying to do.

    FAR - 75 expires 4/30/17
    AUD - 71, 89 expires 11/30/17
    REG - TBD
    BEC - TBD

@dtrain10 – I'm on the auditing side so no tax work for me. I haven't been an auditor very long but still not sure how I got the 71, it seemed much easier than FAR that I have passed.

    FAR - 75 expires 4/30/17
    AUD - 71, 89 expires 11/30/17
    REG - TBD
    BEC - TBD
