If you have an acquaintance who has a large cpa practice as a side business who asks you to help out during tax season to prepare returns. If you went hourly on it, what would you feel is fair if you just completed all 4 parts of the exam(and have no tax preparation experience) and you will be doing it outside of your full time job in the comfort of your own home.

well when I was a full time tax intern for a really small firm they paid me $15/Hour so I would definitely not go under that haha. I also hadn't passed any part of my CPA exam at the time.

When I got hired on as a new associate, with no audit experience, and obviously no CPA at the time…I was hired on at $23/hr salaried. I wouldn't go under $20, personally.

The going rate in a major city is between $15-$20. Will be less in a smaller market. Whether you have passed the CPA or not, the premium on the hourly rate would come from experience.

I spent a year working in tax part time during grad school. As long as you are not being low balled, take it. You should gain a lot of experience.

I wouldn't do anything under $40/hour. A temp agency would probably charge him the same as that for someone with minimal experience. You need to keep in mind that you will self-employment tax on your own tax return that you'll have to cover as well. Of course, if you just want the experience or it's a favor for a friend, go lower if you want.

    FAR - 93 (YAY!!!!)
    REG - 93 (Double YAY!)
    BEC - 87 (Whew!)
    AUD - 96 (DONE!!!!!)

Considering an intern, with no tax experience, will get paid $20+, I would say $20/hr at minimum.

You can ask for whatever figure you choose but I wouldn't pay anybody over $20/hour to do taxes with no experience. With experience you can certainly get more but having a CPA doesn't automatically make a person proficient in taxes.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

The lower end of the market rate would be fair, but for a job on the side, you can even go below the lowest level, so long as you're getting something.

    CPA - Since 2015
    CISA - Smashed 2012
    CIA - Passed 2015
