Does GPA even matter after you become a CPA? I strongly doubt employers will be interested in what college/university you attended let alone your GPA.

Nope – an employer will not ask you about your GPA if you are a CPA.

I was never asked after my first job in public accounting.

@Jeff – Do people stop putting it on their resume once they're a CPA?

Do you mean putting if you graduated Cum Laude or Magna Cum Laude, etc? I still put Cum Laude on my resume(3.5 BS in Accountancy) but no one has asked for my transcripts since my first job out of college. I think once you get out in public accounting your experience and CPA license matter most. I changed jobs after 1.5 years in my first job out of college. No one asked about my transcipts.

CA CPA - All because of the journey listed below
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    FAR - 53('10), 8/25/12 79 PASSED!
    REG - 66('11), 69('12), 12/06/12 77 PASSED!!
    BEC - 58('10), 74('12), 01/05/13 77 PASSED!!!
    AUD - 43('11), 66('12), 69('13), 74('13) 7/29/13 85 PASSED!!!!!

B.S. in Accounting – 3.8. I've never put it on my resume. I just put Magna Cum Laude, which is also on my diploma that is hung on the wall of my cubical. The only employer that ever asked about my GPA was my first job out of college at a regional CPA firm, and after that nobody cared. And now that I have my CPA license, people REALLY don't care. 🙂 I kind of wish that I had had more fun in high school and college rather than working my butt off! But what can I say… I really enjoyed school, and I've never been able to turn anything in without giving it 110%. I'm a perfectionist.

    BEC: 70, 82
    AUD: 62, 78

Cum Laude is fine and warranted. You would only put your GPA if it was a strength. As you gain more experience, your education gets bumped down the resume and eventually you wouldn't list your GPA.

Employers don't give a rip about your education/GPA once you have experience. They care about what you can DO – what tasks you can take over in their department and lighten the load – not what you learned 10 years ago in academia.

BS in Acc. 3.85. Dreaming of getting my CPA and first job, so I would not have to worry about my GPA anymore.

MBA 3.962 (straight A's except one A-). I still graduated as one of the Outstanding Honors Graduates (top 7 students in the MBA class that year).

Undergrad, 3.0 overall….not so stellar but I did it in 3 years while working full time plus.

2.8 GPA for undergrad. Could have been higher if wasn't a bio major my first year and a half.

I used my GPA as my motivation to pass the CPA exam ASAP. I didn't want people to look at my GPA and I also wanted to prove to myself that even though I was a slacker in college (ok more like K-12 + college), I can still study and pass one of the hardest exams known to man.
