Where would you rank the CPA

I don’t mean where do you think it ranks as far as reputation amongst certifications or anything like that.

I mean as far as difficulty and personal feeling of achievement, where would you rank the CPA in those areas for yourself?

I guess I was just thinking about this because I take hopefully my final exam on Monday, and from a personal achievement perspective and difficulty perspective, this exam is the toughest thing I have ever done and my most crowning personal achievement. Granted I am just in my late 20’s, and there are things I am more proud of in a general sense like my little girl. From a personal achievement stand point if I pass my last exam this window, for me this will have been my biggest achievement to date.

    AUD - 2/2013 - Passed!
    BEC - 5/2013 - Passed!
    FAR - 8/2013 - Passed!
    REG - 11/2013 - Passed!

Great thread. With the caveat that I am most proud of my relationships with God Family and friends. As far as secular Achievements, CPA will be my number 1. Completing a Marathon is second. I hope to start a successful CPA firm one day, which will later take 1st place.

    AUD: 94 (Nov. 2013)
    FAR: 76 (Oct. 2013)
    BEC: 79 (Nov. 2012)
REG: 84 (Dec. 2013) It's Mile 26.2, and we finished. Blood, sweat and tears, passion, perseverance, and never giving up, we did it!

    Love this thread!!!!

CPA is my #1 without question because it means so much more to me than just a certification…it's a game changer!

    CPA means to me that:

    1. I will make partner and realize my dream of owning my own business.

    2. I have accomplished something that no one (except my parents and husband) thought I was ever capable of doing.

    3. I will be able to provide a comfortable life for my family in an industry that will always be in demand.

    4. I will take pride in the accomplishment of realizing a long term goal.

    5. It justifies the time, money, and effort spent on my 5 year grind through grad school while working full time in public accounting. My undergrad is pre-law, so my MAC program was not optional and a very rough ride.

    6. When I first decided to go back to grad school, the manager on staff laughed in my face and told me I wasn't even qualified to pick up dry cleaning…let alone prepare corporate tax returns. This person would make nasty comments like that on a daily basis. I repaid their kindness by taking their job about 2 years later once I mastered our in house billing software, then cross trained someone else in the admin department on it, and then personally assumed the controller duties. I'm considering sending this person a dozen roses with a copy of my license once I pass. They did more to keep me motivated then they will ever truly know or understand! 😉

    REG: 75 DONE 🙂
    AUD: 61, 71, 68, 92 DONE 🙂
    BEC: 76 DONE 🙂
    FAR: 72, 74, 79 DONE 🙂

It will always rank second behind graduating college. I was a college dropout, who decided I'd rather work for $8.25 an hour in a diesel engine shop than go to school. I got promoted to accounts receivable while I was there, and got a raise to $9/hr! That's when I decided to go to school for accounting. The problem was, I had a 0.0 GPA since I'd taken all F's in college, and I had to start out in community college. I was a sophomore when my friends were graduating with masters degrees. But I hung in there, and look at me now! Ha. I am very proud of myself for going back. CPA (even though I'm not actually licensed yet) stems from the fact that I learned a lot of determination in overcoming the hole I dug myself when I was 18 years old.

    BEC: (4/2012) 88
    AUD: (5/2012) 91
    REG: (8/2012) 82
    FAR: (1/2013) 78 🙂

    1. Somehow I got my husband to like and then love me (and then get him to ask me to marry him). That's the best thing going for me, now, for the past 3 years, and hopefully for like 70 more!

    2. CPA. It's a verrry close second!

    REG - 65, 70, 80!
    BEC - 35, 62, 79!
    AUD - 73, 75!
    FAR - 65, 73, 70, 75! DONE.
