For those of you who finished or currently enrolling graduate school, what major are you in? And how do you like it?

I read somewhere.. This guy major public policy instead of any more accounting (since he thinks cpa is enough accounting studies) and it worked out great because he ended up having a job related with that degree.

I want to hear more stories like this!!

Anybody took graduate program and felt that it really worked out great with your current job?

Has anybody majored in something that’s not accounting related at all? And what is your job now?

I’m studying Gmat these days and looking for the best option to use this expensive tuitions. I’m a ny candidate, live in nj.

    Bachelor in Accounting

    Master's in Accounting

I did the 5 year program where you take both types of classes concurrently. Worked out fine for me as the large Big 4 firms recruit specifically from that program.

I got recruited, did an internship, and went to work at my firm after graduation.

I'd say 90%+ of my coworkers have Bachelor's+Master's in accounting. Some have their MBAs. 2 or 3 I have met have non-accounting Bachelor's with an accounting Master's. A few were double majored (accounting + something else) in undergrad and didn't need a Master's.

I am enrolled in a Master of Accountancy program. I did it because I needed the credits for the CPA license, plus it was related to my field and I thought it would make me more competitive for promotions in the accounting field.

I went the dual major path but i still plan on getting my masters.

If i did accounting graduate school i would do masters in taxation.

I dont think ill go that way though, i was thinking about doing Masters in Computer Science but i dont know how to code at all so not sure how that would work out.

BEC -Waiting on score May 5th

Over 13 years I worked my way from Staff Accountant to Accounting Manager without a degree in accounting. I decided that I needed my CPA license to progress in my career. I went to graduate school at night for 4 1/2 years and graduated with a Masters in Accounting and Financial Management. At that time, 2 Assistant Controller positions opened up at my firm. The company hired outside the firm for 1 position and I was promoted to the 2nd position. One factor in being promoted was my masters degree.

After receiving my masters degree, I let work come before sitting for the CPA exam. After 23 years my company filed for bankruptcy. I am taking this opportunity to finally get my CPA license but I have been unemployed for over 2 years. I am finding that most companies want the applicant to have a CPA license. To be competitive in the current job environment, my advice is for a person to make sure that they have a CPA license before a masters degree if you have to choose between the two.

    AUD - 76!
    REG - 66, 78!
    BEC - 69, 69, 75!
    FAR - 70, 73, 79!
    Ethics Test - 98!

ILBOE Certificate of Certified Public Accounting issued May 5, 2014
State of Illinois License effective August 1, 2014
