    I want to take CLEP tests to finish out my 150 credits and I want to know if that is accepted in my state. I just called the NJ board of accountancy and they told me to ask NASBA because they have nothing to do with it. I’ve also e-mailed them twice and they didn’t answer. I was under the impression that your state board handles all this. Can anyone give me some answers on this? At least who is in charge? Thank you

    I don't know much about the State of NJ. I would have thought they are the ones that would evaluate whether you meet the 150 Hr requirement. On the website I see the information below.

    Taking the CPA Exam with 150 Credits Hours

    Under the 150-hour regulation, a candidate will be deemed to have met the requirement for earning their CPA if the candidate has met any one of the following four conditions:

    Earned a graduate degree from an accounting program or department which is accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the Association of Collegiate Schools of Business (ACBSP) or any other national accreditation agency recognized by the New Jersey State Board of Accountancy

    Earned a graduate degree from a business school or college of business which is accredited by the AACSB, ACBSP or other accrediting agency recognized by the State Board of Accountancy and completed at least 24 semester hours in accounting at the undergraduate level; or 15 semester hours at the graduate level, or an equivalent combination including courses covering the subjects of financial accounting, auditing, taxation and management accounting. An applicant may complete an equivalent combination of undergraduate and graduate level course work based upon a 3:2 ratio level so that three credit hours at the undergraduate level are equivalent to two credit hours at the graduate level.

    Earned a baccalaureate degree from a business school or college of business which is accredited by AACSB, ACBSP or other accrediting agency recognized by the State Board of Accountancy and completed the following:

    at least 24 semester hours in accounting at the undergraduate or graduate level, including courses covering the subjects of financial accounting, auditing, taxation and management accounting;

    at least 24 semester hours of business courses or substantially equivalent (other than accounting) courses at the undergraduate or graduate level.

    Earned a baccalaureate or higher degree from an educational institution which is accredited by the Middle States Association, Commission on Higher Education or other accrediting agency recognized by the Board and completed the following:

    at least 30 semester hours of accounting, including courses covering the subjects of financial accounting, auditing, taxation and management accounting; and

    at least 24 semester hours in business courses or substantially equivalent (other than accounting courses) at the undergraduate or graduate level.

    I do know for California its the CA board that determines which evaluates the course to meet the 150 Requirement.

    Thank you! It seems that I would meet the requirements with my plan according to this, but I'd like something definitive from the state. It doesn't seem like that's in the cards for me though as they're 4/4 for being useless.

    CLEP tests should be fine, they just need to appear on a transcript from your school. I have a bunch of credit from tests.

    Yes CLEP should as that is what I will also do for CA board and they emailed back saying they will accept it. Great someone for NJ responded 🙂

    Thanks again guys. I got the contact info from the NASBA who handles NJ licensing. I sent them an e-mail. But when you say they need to appear on a transcript… I graduated undergrad in 2012 and now I'm doing a masters at Rutgers which is not where my undergrad was done. If I took a CLEP test now, how does that get to my undergrad transcript? Is that an easy process?

    I was still in undergrad when I took them, so I can't be certain. I would think if you sent the score reports to your undergrad school, they would grant credit for the scores and it would show up on your transcript. You may be able to send them to Rutgers, and they might show them as credit. The CLEP is just a test, and each school decides how many hours to award, and what score is acceptable.

    The state board decides the education req. I was looking at this yesterday.
