saw an episode of Silicon valley about a child prodigy programmer who needed ritalin to perform at a stellar level. recently ritalin was mentioned again, amongst college students, at my local barber shop. Just curious… obviously if the individual has prescriptions for it then no harm or foul. however, curious to know how many people (who don’t need the prescription) taking the exams are taking ritalin for that competitive edge.

samdiegoCPA, are you taking Modafinil? This drug is prescribed for people that have narcolepsy.

@Gian, do you also take Modafinil? I'm not sure if I'm just straight up retarded but I lose concentration after like 5 questions. I can barely get 50 questions down at this rate if I'm taking breaks after every 5 questions. I'm pretty sure I do not have ADHD since I can concentrate on non-academic things just fine. Its just studying for this dang CPA that my “ADHD” kicks in. Ha!

For my situation, Do you think I should take Modafinil or Adderall? Im willing to sacrifice ANYTHING to PASS, but is Lindrobe being serious? Will Adderall make me cray cray or something?

I'm not trying to rely on medication as a cop out but I seriously need to work through these MCQs faster! Preeeety desperate here Unless im just dumb as rocks.

@Mik, I was initially worried about the effects as you sound. Depending on dosage, you'll feel an intense desire to complete whatever task you're doing whether it's read as many chapters as possible or complete all of the MCQ in an assignment. There is no craze factor associated. You typically sweat a little bit and have a few mood swings coming down. It is extremely addictive and tolerance builds quickly. Don't bother sleeping if you take in afternoon.

mikiluv,it took me like 7 months to pass FAR,so ofcourse I want to take Modafinil. I just don’t know where to get it and my cousin gets it prescribed cause he has narcolepsy.

_Nick_, are you taking Modafinil on a regular basis?

I am being totally serious about my post. Adderall drastically changed my sister. Her priorities are totally different than they used to be. She is getting a divorce and her business is in the dumps. She doesn't even act like the same person.

I take Modafinil because I have MS. It's for fatigue- physical & cognitive. I would not function nearly as well without it. I disagree that it is addictive- especially in comparison to amphetamines or even adderall. No comment on how I know that 🙂

It doesn't give you a “speedy” feeling- except maybe for like 10 minutes, 20 minutes after you take it. So there's no crash or anything after. Granted, I take half the prescribed dosage. When I took a whole pill, I felt really strange. I've read that reactions vary.

I knew tons of people in college that took adderall or got prescriptions for it based on false info they gave to a doctor. Sure it might help you in the short run if it works for you, but it really isn't the conducive to really learning. You just get in a crazy mood where you go beast mode on whatever you're trying to accomplish. If you don't understand the material, you don't understand the material.

word beast mode…hmmm…well you could take a xanax after words. I say this is in jocular jest, please don't listen to me. i just take coffee grinds and a couple of Vivarins and process it into blender, whilst listening to Wiz khalifa's “black and yellow”. i then add it to visine. Once properly diluted, I add droplets to my eye. I'm good for 86 hours to perform MCQ and deadlifts. speaking of beast mode, its early but seatle looks proper on both defensive and offensive ends. More PED…I mean skittles.

@super.senpai the term “beast mode” was actually a term someone I knew in college used to describe his adderall conquests. He is still looking for a job because he relied on that rather than hard work. Pretty entertaining.

I personally don't see a problem at all with someone taking aderall/vyvance/whatever to help with something such as the CPA exam. Taking it to for your career, or on a normal basis unprescribed is when the problems arise. If you are a responsible person and choose to take it to pass four exams that you will never have to take again, i'm completely fine with it.

I have not taken aderall for the CPA exams, but I did in college to study for some finals/midterms. I wouldn't have been opposed to taking it for my CPA exams every now and then, but I had no source haha. I also did not go out of my way to find one which I could have done easily since I live 40 minutes from my alma mater.

Hmm, so it seems like adderall is the one that may make you crazy but modafinil is OK?

Can I just straight up ask my primary doctor or will i appear like some cracked up druggie or something? LoL
