Why are AUD pass rates so low?

I haven’t done questions just yet (using NINJA method) but it seems AUD rates are historically the 2nd lowest among the four exams. I’ve read through A3 in Becker and while there is a decent amount of info, I have not been nearly as overwhelmed as I was with FAR. I’ve almost noticed from this forum that people either struggle mightily with it or get like a 95, lol. I’ve even seen some posts where some people don’t even read and just do the questing and (according to them) pass.

    AUD - 92
    BEC - 90
    FAR - 83
    REG - 88

I have seen a lot of ESL Candidates struggle with AUD. I think because the wording becomes very complex, and the difference between a right answer and wrong answer is misinterpreting one word.

i think nasba doesn't want ppl passing it without u having sufficient understanding of principles. i believe curve plays some part in the grading process as well. i'm speaking from my experience on it; the report mentioned i was getting better in every CSO but i kept getting 72's.

bottom line is, do not under-estimate any exam including Aud, which supposedly has the least amount of material but i think you really need to understand the deep underlying concept on Aud. also, each candidate is different, one may have hard time with one while an easy time with another.

If I can do it, you can do it too!

I was surprised to see BEC so much higher (~8-10%) than the rest. I thought usually all 4 exam pass rates hover right below 50%.

    REG (02/2016)- PASS
    BEC (04/2016)- PASS
    FAR (06/2016)- PASS
    AUD (08/2016)-

I think a lot of people write AUD when they are not quite ready. It is a test of concepts, so simply going through the lectures, notes and MCQs does not guarantee a pass. I think a person can pass audit once they can explain the concepts in their own words.

I also think (like DT mentioned), it is difficult for people who do not list English as their mother tongue.

I think it's because of how tricky the questions are worded and because it's all concepts. Even though I didn't find AUD to be that difficult, it was the hardest by far for me to study and maintain focus. I'm a numbers person and it's very hard for me to keep my brain engaged to remember the material.

So far in my CPA exam experience – AUD has been the easiest to study for, but the most difficult exam to take. The material is not difficult, but the way they test it is pretty ridiculous. I didn't really learn that much more about the material when I took it the 2nd time, but what helped me pass was reading EVERY question twice and justifying why the other 3 options are incorrect. There are traps all over that exam that are very easy to fall into, I know from experience. But if you study thoroughly and test carefully, you can totally do it.

I don't have a problem with English at all and I still failed my attempt. I hate AUD.

After doing many multiple choice I see that a lot of the questions follow a pattern and are easy to answer. But some come out of left field and ask a question where many answers looks right. I hate those.

New post re: pass rates … FAR and AUD are usually low, although AUD seems to get the highest # of 99s, anecdotally.

I thought it was the easiest and quickest to study for, and felt the exam was easy. Its the only one that I walked out of knowing that I smoked the MCQ portion. The SIMS were difficult, but still felt like they were more doable than FAR and also had more than enough time to use the AL to help with those. The SIMS were also really similar to Becker SIMS. For FAR, I felt like my sims were so out of left field and unlike any that I've seen in Becker.

I failed my first time as well and to me it's just as others stated, all the answers can have something right about them so the key is to find the one that has the least wrong with it. And then to read the question slowly so you know exactly what you're looking for. I can't stand this exam and the questions personally just because there is a lack of math and calculation. I knew that this would be the section I would struggle with the most just because it's also the least interesting of the bunch for me.

Im wondering if people who get the high 90s are also auditors by trade. I feel like if you study AND do it for a living there should be no problem.

I work in tax and my co-worker got a 98 and he said that he studied for 2 weeks and took his last audit class 2.5 years before he took the exam. So I think it's just more logical for some people. I personally struggle. I'm retaking it on Monday and am a bit worried. I got a 65 back in January so I'm just hoping I can get a 75 and never see this damned material again.
