Ha – It's definitely worth pursuing! I question my MBA everyday (for legit reasons). I won't question this investment, which is much less pricey, ever in my life!!!

Right now I work in management consulting, which is not even accounting related (although I do work at a Big 4), and I am in my mid-30s. If I can pursue this, you can as well.

BTW – My moniker (Future CFO) is a narcissistic joke. I would much rather work on forensics or financial system implementations than pure accounting any day. Things have changed – the CPA opens up all kinds of doors that didn't exist even 10 years ago…

There are a few Senior Accountant's. They were promoted within 2 years. What do they have in common? CPA.

If you're cool with just the bare minimum then drop the CPA exam. But realize it's a dog eat dog world. And when shit hits the fan the people who only put in the bare minimum are the ones that get the shorter end of the stick.

And if I were a CFO of a company I'd much rather have people who want to increase their intelligence and skill level as opposed to those who are fine with just sitting in one place.
