    NINJA Question –

I have been stopping by this forum for a couple of weeks, but I finally decided to post since my CPA journey is soon beginning. I have a question about which study materials I should use. I’m trying to spend as little money as possible and I am experienced in all four areas – just finished my MBA, recently became a CFE, and I’ve worked in the field since 2001.

So, my question is – If I purchase Wiley’s CPAexcel Study Guide, Ninja Notes, and Ninja MCQ’s, would that prepare me enough for the exams? I really don’t like watching videos, and I want to easily split my study sessions into 1 or 2 hours at a time. I hear a lot about CPAexcel, but I’m not sure how many people just use the Study Guide. I don’t want to pay for the entire course!

    Thanks for your help!

Yes – that will be enough to pass the CPA Exam.

Book + NINJA MCQ + Notes is both effective and efficient (for the AUD people).

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 80
    FAR - 76
    REG - 92

Thank you for the reply, Jeff! That sounds great…I will be purchasing those soon so I can get started! I've been putting this off because I thought I'd have to fork out a couple thousand for a full course, but I'm so glad there are other options 🙂

I've managed so far with just Wiley and Ninja (a slightly different mix of Ninja products each time). I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg on review materials if I didn't have to.

Cost of review materials: $681.32, spread out over several months

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

Glad to see that is working great for you, Kimboroni! That's definitely more in my price range….I also like that I can purchase each section at a time – doesn't make me feel like I'm spending much at all!

I decided to try it on my first one and see if it worked, with the plan B to get Roger Cram (costs less than Becker, and Roger's teaching style seems like a good fit for my learning style) if I didn't pass.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

I'm trying the same thing Kimboroni is. I used a different prep course and I got really good at memorizing MCQs, as FAR beat me up and took my lunch money on the first try. The Wiley book helped me with the how and Ninja MCQ is great for its format.

Using Ninja MCQ, NINJA Notes, Audio, Flashcards and BLITZ, and 2014 Wiley Text

    FAR - (61,63)
    AUD - (68)

Yes perfect, that's actually been my review method. I actually just got through my last section (FAR) and will begin phase 2 tomorrow.

    Phase 2

Pretty simple, I buy the ninja notes and I'm going to try the Ninja mcqs this time (I've used the a Wiley TB before but I imagine they're pretty similar). I open up the notes on one screen, the mcqs on the other and just start cranking them out. If I know it I answer it , if I don't I look out how to on the ninja notes and piece it together. Shooting for mid October, am I potentially over killing the review? Yes, but it's so close I'm gonna take that extra time.
