Will a C in an Advanced Accounting class prevent me from getting hired?

    Good morning,

I have a good GPA overall (3.6), but I have a B+ in Tax Accounting and it looks like my midterm grade of a C- in Advanced II is going to be harder for me to improve than I thought, and I’m afraid I won’t be able to reach even the B range (and my chance at an A is definitely gone). I’ll be a December grad and will be applying to small/local firms at the beginning of the summer. Should I be panicking/looking at other career options? I have had one internship, I studied abroad for a semester, and I am a Resident Assistant. I’m graduating with 150 credit hours and won’t be going to graduate school. I live in Pennsylvania.

Thanks for your time taken to read my question! Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Miss Franklin

how would an employer know that you got a C- ?

    FAR - 1/26/2012 - PASSED (78, but Lost credit), re-do 11/27/2013 - PASSED (87)!
    AUD - EPIC FAIL, 71, 69; 68; 5/25/2013 - PASSED (85)!
    REG - 10/1/2012 - 72; 7/1/2013 - 73 UGH, 10/1/2013 - PASSED (85)!

    Hi G. Snyder,

Thank you for your feedback! That's a good point! The recruiter for my internship last year requested a copy of my transcript, so I assumed this was a normal practice. It this incorrect?

“Looking at other career options?” Good grief, if one C prevented someone from a career, most of us would be screwed. You'll be fine.

Alot of entry level accounting positions ask for a transcript. I dont think it matters. Its all about how you interview and if they like you, can see working daily with you, and you would be a good fit for the team (unless they are extremely desperate). Usually checking transcripts and all that good stuff is just a formality unless they have a specific requirement for a min GPA which i think is fairly uncommon

I've personally never been asked for a transcript to get a job. I think internships are different as you are actually doing it in lieu of coursework (usually). I've had employers do background checks where they verify you actually graduated from where you said you did…but usually a third party company does the verifying. I think you'll be just fine.

I think they ask for transcript because you are still an undergrad student.. they would like to know how many credits you have passed so far

I think once you graduate, the diploma will be enough prove that you passed all the necessary credits

I was asked for my transcript at a mid-sized firm. There were a couple of Cs on there. A lot of Ws too, from when I dropped courses. I was still offered the job, because I interviewed well and my GPA was still decent (3.3). I'm glad you aren't sweating it, because it certainly isn't anything that will make or break you in the future. If they like you and want to hire you, nothing like that will prevent them from doing so. Good luck!
