Will a position with a non-profit limit my career? I currently work in public accounting but am looking to get out of public in the near future. Although it is not my main industry of focus, I have audited a few non-profit clients in the past. Would accepting a position with a non-profit limit my changes of switching over to industry later on down the road?

I started in non profit and now work in real estate. I don't think working in any accouting department limit you for future accouting jobs.

That really depends on 1) Where you want to end up in your career & 2) How long you stay in Non-Profit.

I started off in non-profit and just accepted a job with a public company. I haven't been in my current position long though (8 months). I always knew that I wanted to go into the industry of my new position but I needed some accounting experience so I took the job. The longer you stay in non-profit, the harder it is to sell yourself in other industries. I'm not saying it's impossible, just harder.

If your end game is more money, that can be done in non-profit. Non-profit doesn't necessarily equate to lower paychecks.
