Does anyone know whether you can work as a teaching assistant for an accounting professor as part of your experience requirement to become a CPA?

I graduated with an accounting degree and would like to continue to work around the university environment and perhaps earn free credit hours.

    Check with your state board.

Yes, I believe the academic option for the work experience requirement varies by state.

So, you'll have to contact your state board.

Also, I have not seen rules about whether being an “assistant” counts.

Would you actually be “teaching” or just assisting the teacher “behind the scenes”.

    FAR - 86 - 2/27/14
    AUD - 75 - 5/29/14
    BEC - 80 - 8/31/14
    REG - 89 - 2/27/15
    Praise Jesus! I'm done!!

Agreed– there is a huge variation in experience requirements from state to state.

But since you have your state in your profile and I like random research questions, I decided to look into it a little bit.

https://cpa.ky.gov/newcpa/In-State+Licensing.htm says “College teaching – The experience may also be gained by 1-year of teaching at an institution of higher education.”

There isn't a lot of detail on what qualifies, but it sounds promising.

Of course you are better off going to the actual source rather than relying on random internet people, but that is what I found.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)
