Working as after passing CPA?

I see a ton of temp jobs from temp agencies, from Staff Accountant positions to book keeping.

Just wondering if anyone has passed the CPA and completed their Master’s and is now working as a temp somewhere due to not finding work? Also, how long have you been looking for a permanent position?

    Thanks.

I've been looking casually for over a year. Lost my job 10 days ago, have gotten out over 80 resumes, had a temp job for one day and have had 6 interviews.

I have my Master's, completed the CPA exam, and have been looking throughout my study time; have come very close several times but no cigar.

I love teaching as a math professor but it doesn't count 🙁

@mla1169, I'm sorry to hear about that. I've heard a bunch of people are getting made into contractors or let go, even in some of these big firms we know. You have a lot of experience. Have you considered starting your own business? I know I will, when I get at least 10 years of “real” work in.

@G3 Don't give up, though. I don't know why but jobs seem to pop up around the Summer.

It's not worth it for me to start my own gig. Not at that stage of life anymore.

Um, mla1169… I could be akm1168 and you are NOT too old to start your own gig. My former boss, now partner, started the firm when he was 51. 20 years later I'm buying it at, well, more than 30 and less than 60. You are NOT too old!

Didn't say too old 😉 never too old! Paid my dues for too long though to do the working 80+ hours per week just to get established and break even. I've crunched the numbers but I have to carry the health insurance for my family (DH's job doesn't have to offer it only 4 employees), pay the mortgage, etc. I can do something part time on the side but just don't have it in me after balancing work, school, kids and CPA to burn the candle at both ends anytime soon.
