Hi All,
I had originally intended to attend my grad school in person for at least the fall semester for recruiting/networking purposes. However, this is becoming less feasible (family issues on top of the extra cost). Because of this I will be taking the online sections of classes for the rest of my masters while continuing to work full time (staff accountant). This is a well recruited SUNY school so it’s not a University of Phoenix or the like, they simply offer the flexibility of on campus or online for every class. The online classes are definitely of the same academic standard, if not more intensive from what I’ve experienced.
I am planning my PTO around the career fair, meet the firms, potential interview days, etc., so I should be okay with making it to those, as the physical campus is only ~2.5 hours away. My main concern is how firms would view this. Is working instead of being active on campus a negative in their eyes? Understandably there will be less physical interaction with students/professors (though I have networked with several from the two online classes I already took), and I won’t be able to join clubs on campus. I know firms look for extracurricular activities, and I suspect a full time job might check that box off anyways, but I wanted to check in to see if anyone has had similar experiences.
Thanks!
