Would Cost Accounting and Managerial Accounting be duplicates? ( ILLINOIS)

I’m trying to cobble together the 30 hours of accounting required to sit in Illinois. (I have 6.) I plan on doing UNA/PAPP, but I need one more course. Would intermediate Cost Accounting be considered a duplicate of intermediate Managerial Accounting? I’ve looked at some syllabii and it’s just not that clear cut. Cost seems to be part of Managerial Accy, but the stand-alone Cost courses seem to go into much more detail.

Does anyone have any first-hand experience with this?

Hi May – thank you for your response! (I love to hear encouraging news.) I also looked at taking Fraud Auditing, but Cost knowledge seems to appear in more job ads!

Kelly: there are some overlapping concepts but cost goes much deeper into variances and manufacturing issues as to where Management Accounting is more cost/benefit and average unit cost type stuff. Cost is sort of advanced managerial accounting. I would be very surprised if they didn't count it as separate classes.

    MBA,CMA,CPA, CFF?, ABV?
