Writing for BEC

How do you actually prepare for this part? Even after taking it and finding out that I got a bad score for it, I still don’t know what or how I should prepare for it. I see it on WTB and CpaExcel, but I don’t see useful in there or maybe I’m not looking at the right areas? Anyways, more specific, direct questions

    1) How much time should I leave for the writing portion and how much time should I use for each Memo/Letter?

    2) What do you do if you have no idea about the topic in question? Like, you are totally drawing a blank because they are not asking a topic related to BEC.

    3) Are they asking for a complete essay (length and depth wise) for each writing piece?

    4) How do WTB/CpaExcel even grade BEC writing parts?

To be honest, I was confident in it because I got an A in technical writing, but that was like 2 years ago and there was no time limit in my assignments. After BEC’s writing part though I knew I did bad because my head wasn’t thinking fast enough to get the words down. I didn’t even have enough time to reread what I wrote and edit my own work.

    FAR - 62 (10/2/13), 50 (5/30/14)
    AUD - 73 (10/30/13), 66 (5/6/14)
    REG - 69 (4/8/14)
    BEC - 66 (2/27/13), 73 (4/21/14)

Keep it concise, succinct, and to the point. Make sure you don't ramble- it's business writing, not flowery college paper writing. Use accounting jargon and words that are used in the prompt and do NOT misspell anything. I once heard that since this section is graded by a machine, the more you can use words provided in the prompt, the higher your score will be. Give yourself enough time- I made this mistake the first time I took BEC…I had about 15 minutes for the written portion and failed with a 74. You don't have to have the right answer for this section, if you can write succinctly and be mostly on base, you'll get a high enough score to pass.

AUD: PASSED [81]; Expired, retaking August 23rd
BEC: PASSED [83]; Expired, retaking July 11th
    REG: PASSED [83]
FAR: FAILED [64]; Retaking May 23rd

@mustpass1988 really? so it's pretty much writing rhetoric with a bunch of accounting jargon? So, I shouldn't have to study too much on this section then?
