Yaeger or Roger

Hi everyone I am new to the site, but have been reading a lot! I graduated with my BBA in accounting last spring as a returning mid 30’s student and have been approved to take the CPA exam. I have been researching for many hours on the topic of review courses and am really really torn between Yaeger and UWorld Roger CPA Review. I work part-time and take care of our 1.5 year old and my wife works full-time as a CPA. I do know I have to have the videos to watch as I never got to take Gov’t/NFP accounting as it is a MS class. Any comments our stories you may have with either course would be great. I also will buy the ninja notes too.

I use Roger CPA review for the videos. He is really upbeat and energetic and is cracking jokes so you do not get bored. His mnemonics are also great….I'm only speaking for FAR as that is the only section I have studied. I will go through his MCQ banks once or twice. However I would highly recommend supplementing with NINJA MCQs as well. I bought the Ninja MCQ near the end and it is great how you can see what your progress is and it makes it a challenge to get to the end of the section. I wish I would have bought Ninja MCQ way earlier in my studying.

Thought I was reading about myself in those first couple sentences lol. I just finished my accounting classes in December and started studying for FAR with Roger a few days after. His videos are upbeat and he will keep you engaged the whole time which was important for me since I do most of my studying later in the evenings or early mornings on the weekend. He is mainly known for his videos, but I really like his textbook compared to Becker and Wiley. I've only skimmed through the latter, but his books seems much easier to comprehend and aren't as overwhelming.

With that said, I haven't taken any exams yet so I can't say with complete confidence that his course worked for me. If you choose Roger I would at least supplement with Ninja MCQ and Notes.

I also use Roger CPA review program. He's very energetic, entertaining during lectures. So far i like his teaching style, textbook formats, etc. Plan to take my first exam by end of this month. Will see how it goes.

Welcome! I, too, was in your shoes less than 6 months ago. I am in my late 30's and graduated with my degree in accounting last summer. I also was trying to decide between Roger and Yaeger when I was looking for a CPA review course.

I ended up and choosing Roger and have not regretted it since. I will tell you that I purchased the Yaeger cram for Audit just to get a different perspective because I felt like I was struggling with Audit using Roger. I was very disappointed in Yaeger's course. I only watched a couple of lectures before I almost fell asleep. While I'm sure they are great at presenting the information, I just like Roger's style A LOT more. I probably have a mild (possibly severe) case of ADHD, but Roger's course does an excellent job of keeping you engaged. Some will say he talks too fast, but I would contend that you can rewind the video to hear it again if you miss something. You also have the option of slowing down (or speeding up) the video at any time. Go with Roger! You won't be disappointed.

Anyways, just wanted to chime in since I could relate. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Jeff has a link that compares the different review courses but I cannot find it and am too lazy to search the forum. It really all depends. Yaeger is very mom and pop and it really depends on what you are looking for. I think Cindy is great when she teaches and will use her for BEC. I think Roger does a great job for audit. Audit is very boring and if you rely on lectures to learn then I would go with Roger for audit. I have used both and I have to say that I do like Roger's upbeat style and his jokes help you remember certain concepts. You also kind of have to figure out how you learn best. I always thought I was a lecture type of person but after failing audit multiple times and countless emails to Jeff I actually realized that I learn better from reading the text. I have since switched to the Ninja books.

I would search on youtube and see how they teach. Also, do not buy all 4 in case you end up not liking that review course.

For those who are using Roger, what's your study method? I started out watching the videos then going back and reading the text and taking notes after. I would then do some mcq's, but felt it was taking too long to get through each section. Now I'm just watching lectures and taking notes while I read through the text afterwards. At the end of the week I go back and review all my notes to try and keep everything fresh. I plan on finishing all the sections by the end of next week and leaving myself almost 6 weeks to go back and review and do as many mcq and sims as possible.

    RE2PECT,

I'm having same issue with Rogers program. He recommends we we watch videos first without stopping then read textbooks, take notes. It doesn't really work for me. I read each section, highlights important words, phrases, take notes and then watch videos. I tried to follow his direction, and felt lost while watching videos. Without reading textbooks, how would you know what is he talking about? Even in college, professors asked us to read chapter ahead before scheduled class date. Doing all these take lots of time and I'm having difficultly picking up the pace. Sometimes i feel I'm going way too slow and days are passing by. I really want to take my first exam by end of this month.
