I have in the past used Becker to try and pass the exam with no luck, currently trying a Lambers in class course to pass it, however, found out my BEC score and it was lower than studying on my own with Becker. I am currently looking at going to a different study course and Yaeger looks to be one that may help, but I am looking for anyone that has used a previous review course and took Yaeger and passed it and how they feel Yaeger was better than the other course.

I just passed FAR and BEC on first try using only Wiley books. They are less than $40 each on Amazon.com and they seem to work for me.

I raised my REG score by 31 points by switching from Bisk to Yaeger HomeStudy. Also, I have heard great things about the BEC Yaeger HomeStudy - Cindy Simpson teaches (most of?) it and she is an absolute gem of a professor!
Yaeger is great because of the lectures (it's like going to class, they teach *concepts* not memorization!). They also go through tons of MCQs with you. They use the Wiley books, which do have some errors in them but the Yaeger instructors are pretty good about telling you about the errors. The Wiley MCQs are pretty difficult and will definitely prepare you for the test.

I used Yeager Cram for my latest REG test. I scored a 72 with Gleim and just needed a few points. So I purchased the Yeager Cram and Wiley book and passed with an 83!

Hey guys, I got a 60 on FAR using becker. I have passed the other 3 sections. Do you recommend that I use the Yaeger cram or the homestudy? Do you think if I just use the Cram that will help me enough? thanks

I did one of the live cram courses one time. I thought it was worthwhile, but WAY too informal. Are there review courses presented this way also?

No I did not. I've primarily been using Becker. I am at a crossroads and am not really sure what to do. I've gone over the Becker material so many times. On BEC and REG I cannot get higher than a 68. I have Becker's videos and questions down well enough to pass when I go to take the exam I feel. I am a HORRIBLE test taker I am not sure if I should keep with Becker or give something else a chance.

I would consider the HomeStudy...I passed 2 (FAR (76)/REG (92)) with the HomeStudy and BEC with the Cram (80).

I used the Wiley book and Bisk cram for audit...it was before my first Yaeger purchase.

I have a friend who just scored an 86 on audit and used the Yaeger HomeStudy exclusively.

If you're not going to get a video course like Yaeger to go with the Wiley book, then I would stick to your current materials. The videos help weed out the extras you don't need to study.

Hi Jeff,

I failed BEC twice with a 71 using Becker only. I went ahead and purchased the Yaeger CRAM with the Wiley book. Do you think that's enough or should I get the homestudy as well? Does the homestudy basically just have more video?

The cram is a high level overview of everything. It assumes that you have a very solid foundation and are just identifying some weak areas and reinforcing strong points.

I would get the HS and use it with the cram *if* I were in your shoes and sitting down today and getting ready to study again.

I scored 74/74 on REG, but I knew I wasn't a "cram away". I was weak on AMT and like-kind exchanges...as well as B-Law and Ethics. I got the HomeStudy instead and passed.

Thanks Jeff, I will try the homestudy. I'm just nervous about starting a whole new review course but I need to do something drastic to help my score. I knew most of the becker book inside and out and I was doing well on the mcq too however when I was taking the exam I knew that I wasn't doing well. I'm guessing each yaeger video goes over a section in the book? How many dvd's are there to watch?

There are around 13 FAR DVDs...there's a lot of material to cover, as you know. It goes by faster if you watch them at 1.3x speed. We can talk more about that if you order it.

I've heard (I haven't taken Becker so don't know for sure) that Becker is geared more toward people straight out of college who know most of the concepts, but just need to know what to study hard and how to memorize it. If you actually need to re-learn or learn the material for the first time, I've heard that Becker is not as good.

Yaeger also has a one time discount called the 'second chance' discount for if you have used another review program first. You have to call to get it and it's $200 which would bring your total to $305 shipped/

I believe that windows media player will only allow you to watch it in 1.5 speed. If I remember correctly, you have to right-click on the video...either that or it's in the menu options at the top.

My laptop came win WinDVD or something...I could watch it in 1.3...1.5..whatever I wanted.

I've just started using Yaeger and the audio isn't loud enough. I've used 2 different players. I've never had this problem with audio on anything else I've used.

Any suggestions?

Yes, I turned the volume on the player and computer as loud as it would go. I have a pair of headphones with volume booster so I plugged those in and I can hear it better now

JEFF/everyone else - has anyone used the Yaeger Homestudy for BEC?? I've used the CRAM as a supplemental while using Bisk materials but received a 69, 73, 72 on my last 3 attempts on BEC. I'm seriously mulling over turning to the Homestudy and had a conversation with Phil this afternoon and he suggested it.

I'm just wondering has anyone out there used the Homestudy? IF so, was it helpful and would you recommend it??

I have used Yaeger homestudy for BEC and i found it very helpful. I did not use the cram , so I have no idea of how much the difference in material is b/w the cram and home study. Phil has always been very helpful when i called him and I think the Cost and Managerial accounting has been explained very well in the home study.

In the HomeStudy, the instructors go over hundreds of MCQs and sims with you on the DVD. They walk you through them step by step. They lecture for 5 minutes and then work 2-3 MCQs for instant application. The HomeStudy builds you a solid conceptual foundation.

The CRAM assumes that you already have a solid foundation in place and goes over everything at a high level and identifies some areas you may be weak on and reinforces what you're already strong on and is meant to be a final look at everything before you take your exam.

In an ideal situation, you would do both the HomeStudy and the cram.

The second time I took FAR, I used a combo of Becker at home and listened to the Yaeger CRAM in the car every day during my commute (30-45 minutes each way). This was really helpful because even if I wasn't able to completely focus on the Yaeger lectures for every moment of the drive, enough of it sank in and I raised my score 15 points.

I've just ordered HomeStudy for FARE... Becker did absolutely nothing for me in this section - I am just not great in financial accounting. (I did easily passed BEC and AUD with Becker, and probably will continue with it for REG).
Just talked to Phill - what an amazing guy! Will try and defeat the monster in a month...

Hi all,

I'm from germany and started with the cpa exam this summer. I used EXAMMATRIX and passed BEC (08/12/09), AUD (08/13/09) and REG (08/17/09). I think the study material is really good and also pretty cheap.
For FAR (next spring) I will use Yaeger because of all the recommendations in this great forum.

nyc007cpa - I have to disagree with your assessment of Yaeger's BEC course only because I was weak in everything (71,71,71) and I passed the next time with an 80 and the only thing I did differently was used Yaeger.

I am using the yaeger FAR homestudy. Does anyone else find it as confusing and all over the place as I do? All i am doing is reviewing multiple choice questions with the instructors, where is the actual outline of the concepts and teaching of the material, rules, etc? Also, do I need to read the Wiley book b/c in the lecture they just flip from 1 page to another. How is it even possible to go back and review the concepts? Help....

The key is to take notes...if they say it, write it down.

Don't be afraid to hit pause to catch up.

There's no need to read the Wiley book...I passed all 3 of my exams that I used Yaeger for and didn't read the Wiley book.

Point One: I passed FAR with Yaeger HomeStudy and I think it was all the MCQs that Phil and Cindy go through with you that helped me pass. Don't discount that method. Point Two: Don't worry, the DVDs start out slow because they are going over the most boring topics (Module 7, ugh) - but they pick up after that. Just watch the lectures, take hella notes, and do the MCQ homework (a couple of times) and you will be fine.

I am using Yaegar for AUD and BEC. I took AUD twice using BISK, but I still couldnt pass. I made a 68 then 66. I ordered Yaegar, and it has been helping me understand where I am at in the audit stage. Did you use it for AUD/BEC? I am happy to hear that you are done that is exciting.

What were your methods for studying AUD? Did you go over the MC questions a lot? I think that has been helping me. Did you ever contact the instructors?

I used Bisk for AUD and did fine , but I think it was because I do audit work a lot in my job. Bisk seems to be good if you already have a more solid basis in the topics. I passed BEC by the skin of my teeth using Bisk, probably because of the Bob Monette Hot Spot video (which was excellent, by the way). I never contacted any instructors with Bisk, not even sure if you can.
To be honest I'm not sure which review program is best for AUD - I've heard negatives and positives for all of them. I would know the different kinds of reports, what tickmarks are & how to use them, the timeline of an audit, etc. Unfortunately a lot of it is memorization - I've heard Becker uses a lot of mnemonics, so that might help. But yeah, do all the MCQs you can. Sounds like you're doing the right things!
