Hey, I’ve passed 2…
…that’s what I keep telling myself to counter the miserable “hey you were one grade point from passing the CPA Exam” voice in my head. I look at my REG book and can’t hardly stomach the thought of opening it again.
Alas – my march toward a July 7th REG re-take starts tomorrow.
If you hear a loud rumbling through your neighborhood, that’s the Yaeger War Machine heading my way. I radioed in for reinforcements and ordered their complete REG and FARE DVD sets. It’s time to get medieval (Pulp Fiction).
I’m 5 weeks out from my next exam and I’m going to see what kind of a score I can get if I truly dedicate myself over the course of a month or so. No more hysteric uber-cramming one week from the exam. I’m going to methodically go through the entire Yaeger DVD package disc by disc and the Wiley book page by page.
I’m setting a realistic study goal of 20 hours per week. It will take some maneuvering to get this done…an hour or so before work…and a few hours at night after the kids go to bed. A four hour block on Saturday and Sunday will also be in order. We’ll see what needs to happen schedule-wise.
I’m over the 74…other than checking it periodically to see if it was a mistake
I’m dedicating 100 hours to passing REG and it starts tomorrow. If anyone wants to keep pace and study with me – let me know.

Hey,
Iam sure this time you will do it… I too gave my FAR attempt this friday .. now waiting for the scores… When life throws lemons at you, make lemonade….
Wake up earlier, and get 2, or even 3 hours of studying done in the morning, before work (hey, take advantage of that fact that you live 10 minutes from work!). You’ll feel a lot more refreshed and alert in the morning than you will be after work (I know, busy season’s slowed down, but the brain absorbs more when it’s gotten sleep!).
When you come back from work, you can spend maybe an hour or two doing stuff. Yeah, your sleep will be somewhat whacked out doing this, but you will get soooo much done during the week.
I used Becker for all the sections, and Wiley (for BEC). I worked this way – listen to the lecture CDs, spend maybe 2 hours (max, b/c it’s easy to get trapped in their crazy outlines) summarizing their acronyms and rules in my own notes typed up in Word, then go to the questions. For questions I got wrong, I’d find the place in my own typed notes that related to the idea, and write out additional notes, explanations, exceptions, situations.
I spread out this listen-write-answer Qs cycle for a few hours in the morning (at least 2, sometimes 3), and did maybe 2 hours of this after work. I tried to listen to the lectures in the mornings, b/c that’s when I absorbed a lot of do’s and don’ts.
Probably something to do with memory, brain-protein building or whatever, but I used to study/nap in weird alternating cycles on the weekends. I’d get up early Saturday, study for 3 hours or so, get super-bored, go running, come back to study for another 2 hours or so, nap for 2, study for another 2-3 hours, have a late lunch, watch some TV, nap for a few hours, and study for another 2 hours or so, then watch a movie, or have dinner or a drink with a friend, crash, and start again the next day (although I’d probably study for just 3 hours on Sunday).
Try the early morning thing and let us know how it goes!
