Impossible AUD sims….anyone still passed?

    Hey all,

I’ve been a former forum lurker for awhile but since I FINALLY took my first exam (AUD) on August 10th, I thought it was time to buckle down and register an account.

I gave myself a moth to study for AUD but had a trip to Mexico City with parents in between ad that screwed up my study schedule and I struggled to cram 75% of content in about a week with very little practice using Wiley.

I tested at 9 in the morning with only 15 minutes of sleep because of stress. MCQs were fine but I still can’t tell if my second testlet was harder than my first. They both seemed about the same to me, which I already know is not a good sign.

BUT the sims were insane. I got one AL, which was fine, 1 ratio analysis, which I think was fine, 1 I can’t remember and the rest were doc reviews and I felt like I was blindly answering! I have no audit experience but I have friends who do and some of the stuff on the doc reviews even I felt would be easier with public practice experience but the rest was just worded strangely and I really struggled. On top, there was the no sleep thing which slowed me down and made me second guess a lot of my answers.

Has anyone had a mediocre MCQ and hard sim experience and still managed to get a 75?

It's really difficult to predict how you did with these exams, especially with AUD. I thought I did fine, but I ended up failing with a 72. I was kind of surprised to see my score because I used the same study method/time/effort studying for AUD as I did for FAR/BEC (passed them on the first try). My performance report indicated that I was stronger on MCQs (which I knew because I felt confident on the MCQs), but weaker on SIMs.

I feel like the AICPA grades a bit tougher on AUD than other sections, but who truly knows how they actually grade them because they're never transparent about the process other than the information presented in the PDF file they published on their website. You just have to wait until 9/11 and find out. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst!

You could still pass. At my last attempt, I thought i did worse than all of my previous tries. I missed research sim and had to rush through two sims. But i passed with 76. I believe you can still pass if you are stronger in MCQs(heavily weighted by AICPA section) and do Ok on sims but get lucky with AICPA weighted sims. As per your post, you said you did ok with ration analysis and other sim. That should be able you to pass the exam just.

    AUD - 76
    BEC - 75
    FAR - 76
    REG - 77
FINISHED.    "If I can do it, so can you".- ME.
