Sims were very off

I sat for AUD on Monday, trying to keep a very positive mind (because I am confident in my MC) but my simulations were way off. Did anyone else have this kind of experience? What were the results like? Trying to keep my spirits high, but the wait is KILLING me.

I felt good on MCQs and struggled through SIMs, changed my answers a few times..one of 'em seemed so off-topic and I had no clue what the question was asking. I suspect that was the pretest question i think. I nailed the research question tho.

I passed with 80 (comparable on SIMs) so don't worry, Stay positive and move on to your next section

Took REG today. The Sims were sick. Not sure how one could complete (with proficiency) all Sims in a 1.25 hour limit. Struggled indeed. Oh well. Out of my hands now. Now we wait. Good luck you all.

    FAR - Passed May 2012
    AUD - Passed July 2012
    BEC - Passed August 2012
REG - Passed March 2013 I'm outta here. CPA Bound for State of Florida.

Took AUD on 2/28 last week, MCQ went well (I think) but feel the same way on sims. Way off, nothing like what I expected and nothing like Becker…can only hope for the best now!

    BEC - Passed
    REG - Passed
    AUD - Passed
    FAR - May 2014

@gatorB8- that's how i felt with my sims too. Every single topic that I prayed I wouldn't get tested too heavily on showed up as sims. I can honestly say that except for the research sim, I don't think I got a single one 100% correct. There's one I might have literally gotten 90% of it wrong. :/

AUD: PASSED [81]; Expired, retaking August 23rd
BEC: PASSED [83]; Expired, retaking July 11th
    REG: PASSED [83]
FAR: FAILED [64]; Retaking May 23rd

I felt the same way on the SIMS for FAR this round. I had a strong showing on the multiple choice. Then got to the sims and think I got murdered. I knocked out 3 of the 7. But the others did not go well lol. I knew the topics in general from Becker. However I got one concerning ______________ and I truly had no idea what they were asking. I know how to do ____________and ________________ but I don't even know what they wanted me to do for them. Hopefully that was a false test question. I think I got all of them at least to 50% right besides the __________ one. The _________________ might be a loss 30% correct but who knows.

All I need is that 75!

I truly think the exam is curved anyway. I have walked out of exam thinking I bombed and passed and walked out of others thinking I did great and failed. Last time I took FAR I thought I had never done worse on an exam and I ended up getting a 68. I left 3 of the simulations BLANK thinking that I failed the MC and there was no point in trying to scronge out a few extra points on simulations that I felt iffy on.

I don't know if the simulations are predtermined or they are based on your multiple choice score but the ones I had this time were much more diffuclt than the ones I had last time.

Either way good luck on friday everyone!

When I first took AUD in 2011, I got blindsided by the sims. AUD was the first section I'd ever studied for, and 2 of the AUD sims was nothing Becker prepped me for…they were much more FAR material than AUD. I couldn't believe it. And since I hadn't studied FAR yet I had no idea what to do. In hindsight I should have searched the literature.

    FAR - F (2011), 5/16
    AUD - F(2011)
    BEC -
    REG -

2nd attempt at this thing. Time to get serious.

Guys, hate to be snarky but, in AUD you audit FAR stuff, isn't it? 🙂

This is especially true for AUD sims.

Accordingly, it makes sense to know/review FAR first in order to understand what you are auditing (proposing corrections, verifying GAAP, etc) in AUD.

What materials are you studying with? Audit is very much repetition, you should be memorizing the overall audit processes and documentation as those are the heaviest test issues.

@SeattleAccountant: Yes when Auditing you are covering a range of financial, managerial, and taxation issues. However, does this translate onto the AUD exam? Not necessarily, many AUD simulations at least in “review” (rolling my eyes), for example using Becker, were entirely concerned with items like: Is this an inherent risk? Control Risk? Detection Risk? Etc. Questions like that, it doesn't help at all to know FAR concepts. Or for example, indicate where various reports go? Who do you have to communicate with? When do you have to communicate deficiencies in control? Who do you ultimately report to?

Point being, just because Auditing in real life is heavily focused on financial accounting concepts, don't expect that to save you on the test. You're still being distinctly tested on properly doing “audit” work, not financial accounting calculations and concepts.
