One week to go until AUD. What shall I do with it?

    Everyone:

Input is always helpful. What would you do with one week left to study?

I feel like I have studied everything in multiple books (Wiley, Becker, Bisk) and my self graded scores aren’t getting better. (In fact they are getting worse.) This is my second time taking AUD.

PS. I wish I had found this site long ago! It is always nice to commiserate with others. This is stressful and depressing to have so much time spent with my head stuck in a book. Not to mention this is my last chance before BEC expires.

You say your scores are getting worse. What are the scores you are seeing? I was scoring 90-93% on the Becker sections throughout the classes. In my final week of the review I was down to 85-90% on most of the sections and 75-85% on the final exams in Becker. My actual test scored ended up at 94. I wouldn't say it is odd to have declined a little bit as you bring the whole of the material together. Without more specifics it is hard to say though.

My last 5 days before my AUD test were actually really light with very little study time. I really just did one quick practice test in the Becker software and went through those I missed and cross referenced to the actual book material if needed. AUD is all theory with no real application (outside the odd written part of a simulation). If you can do 85% on the various MC questions in the materials you have you should be good.

I used Becker to study, and I've passed three parts on the first try. By nature I am a procrastinator, as I find that I retain more of the information from the last week of studying than any other week. I spent two-three days rereading all of the chapters. I took notes about formulas, acronyms, or other oddities that I knew I would want to remember later. Then I just did MC after MC after MC. I did not spend a lot of time practicing the simulations, as I believe that if you know the information, you will do well on the simulations, regardless of how many times you practice. I like to think of the practice simulations as a good way to learn how to do simulations, but not so much for the information. Make sure you get a good night's sleep before the day of the exam (I took Advil PM to ensure I would sleep).

Regarding the practice MC's – my biggest issue was that I started to actually memorize the questions from Becker, so I found that I wasn't actually learning as much. Try to switch it up with other MC's. I also believe I read somewhere on one of these posts that Bisk offers an MC download for around $60. I didn't use it, but I would say it's worth a try. And try not to get frustrated about not getting the answer correct – it's more important that you understand why you got the answer incorrect (sappy, but very true!).

    Good luck with your exam!

    REG - 83(6/09); FAR - 91(8/09); BEC - 83(11/09); AUD - 1/18/10

S00NtobeCPA, I have had the same issues with memorizing the MC questions given I go through them repeatedly. I got around this in AUD (and REG to a lesser extent) by not only looking and finding the correct answer, but to identify why the wrong answers are wrong. When I would read the question I would identify what topic was being tested, what I knew about that topic, and then look for the correct answer. I found this helped me learn the topics vs memorizing the questions.
