Hello y’all. This is going to be longggg.
Soooo, I took the BEC exam today, 9/28/2020. Let me tell you something, that exam was mind-blowing hard.
I used Gleim for my CPA review, studied for 2 months, and I made a 77 in my mock exam, please know that I graded myself well in the written communication section.
I revised the whole book and I felt okay for the exam.
I got to the exam center on time, check and sign-in was pretty okay.
Testlet 1 – Hot tears came to my eyes, I almost raised my hands to confirm if this was the real CPA BEC exam . I had like 11 questions flagged in this testlet. I told myself, surely it cannot get worse. Boy, was I wrong…
Testlet 2 – Questions were more conceptual and I really had no idea what was going on. I had almost all questions flagged. I was like even if somw are pre-test questions, it will not be the whole 31 questions right. These questions were from hell, guys.
Testlet 3- I said since the MCQ were nearly impossible, I will get easier simulations, right. WRONG!!!!! So wrong… No correlations at all for this exam. The first 2 Sims were crazy hard, so much scrolling, lots of exhibits and I was still trying to save time for the Written parts. I have never seen simulations like these ones. Who sets these questions, who is out to get meeeee???
I took my break and came back ready for the last two testlets.
Testlet 4 – I think they decided to go easy on me for this Testlet. I was able to get through the simulations on time with an hour and 15 minutes left for the Written communication.
Testlet 5 – Written Communication, 3 serious questions. At this point, I was like girl, do your best. Follow the guidelines. You have studied and tried for the exam.
I finished with thirty seconds on the timer. Guess we will see what October 9 brings. I am hopeful to God to pass this exam because studying for this exam was really difficult for me.

Motivation and advice – To anyone taking the CPA exam, I am so so proud of you. You are a rock-star and a winner. God is on your side.
For studying- Keep pushing, please stay determined, do not give up.
    This is our year.

I just took BEC today as well. I am 99% sure we got the same exam! Felt like two different exams before and after the break. I also finished with just a little bit of time left, about 3 minutes. The good news is we won't have to wait long for the scores.
Don't worry too much about the multiple choice, the reason it is so tough is because you can't check your answers as you go along. I am sure you did much better than you think. Good luck to you!

Oh, @water, you are so right, it was like two different exams. I kept asking myself, how, why, what?
Thank you for seeing the good news, I need to hear this.
We will do well. Good luck to you.

Teegirl- hang in there- I am rarely (if ever) on here anymore but popped on to see if I could find something that came up in my job FAR related- and I saw your post- let me tell you about my BEC experience(s). First time I took it I walked out of there and was like DAMN that was my best one yet. I felt really good about it I didn't feel tripped up by any of the questions- it was hard but doable. I seriously was not only shocked but DEVASTATED when I got a 71. Alright fine- put on my big girl pants and studied again and sat.

My experience sounded just like yours- the first Testlet I was like WTF- I flagged 9 or 10. Well that was NOTHING compared to my 2nd and 3rd. I honestly started hyperventilating during my 2nd one- not only was it stuff I had not studied it was stuff that I hadn't even heard of ha ha ha ha- and talk about the framework being all off and skewed- I swear the questions that they said would be like 2% of the exam were like 90% of mine… By Testlet #3 I was practically in tears and only felt a bit better about the SIMS. I walked out and sat in my car and cried for about an hour I think- then went home and drank heavily!

So I was MORE SHOCKED the second go round when I got an 81 during score release. Still NO CLUE how it happened. But it did (and I am thankful)- HANG IN THERE- and dont try to out think yourself.

Hope my story makes you feel a little better!

I could definitely see how the sheer randomness of the topics on BEC can be overwhelming. I would say to really make sure you study the sims though. I took BEC the first time and pretty much blew through the multiple choice but got to my first sim and was like “ok…what is this?” I feel like BEC and maybe audit have the easiest multiple choice that you can kind of “BS” your way through and figure out an answer through logic. But those sims are a problem. Hope this helps

If you got a 91 on FAR and an 80 something on AUD. I'd bet my salary that you passed BEC.

Granted I was a finance major (but accountant by trade) but I got a 92 on BEC and did worse on all the others. I used Becker but they told me to focus on correct format, punctuation and using buzzwords (repeat the question) if you did that then im sure you're fine. I know for certain one of my written answers was total nonsense.

    @Teegirl

First of all congrats on putting up a good fight, finishing a beast of an exam is worth something in its own right. I also took BEC in this window, so i'm in a similar boat as you in terms of confidence. I finished with less than a minute, and marked more questions in the second testlet than the first.

Giving my opinion about YOUR situation however, I think you did great. The people with the best scores get the hardest exam, and based on your other great scores i'd bet you were a person who knew their stuff rather than someone who felt an easy test was actually hard.

Wishing you the best for score release in a couple days!

I had the same experience back in March when i took BEC – first testlet was hard, then second testlet was allll conceptual and stuff I felt wasn't in the book. SIMS were brutal – walked out of the test and cried in the car on the way home. I passed with a 92. With your other scores, I wouldn't be too worried! you got this!

    BEC: 92 (March 2020)
