    My boss wants me to become a notary and I am looking into different review materials. Is anyone here a notary and has any suggestions for what review material to use?

    Thanks.

    I am but Notary laws in Louisiana are very different than any other state so we had to use a book specific to Louisiana that was published by the instructor of the course I took. You may check around your area and see if there are any review courses for it and what they suggest. I took a course that was offered locally that was about six weeks long.

    @bnrhilton

    6 weeks long?!

    I'm probably going to be a notary in NY (maybe NJ also, there's a dual certification that can be done – I think)…I looked at a couple of websites and one place gives a seminar for a few hours one day and that is supposed to prepare one for the test.

    Unfortunately their dates for their seminar location closest to me never seems to work out with my schedule…so I'm also looking into online and self-study courses..

    In Louisiana we are under what they call French Notarial Rule. We can do a lot of things that lawyers can do regarding drafting paperwork and we have to learn property descriptions and real estate rules as well.

    That sounds pretty good. Louisiana is the only state under French Notorial Rule?

    I didn't realize that being a notary means something different in different states.

    As far as I know we are the only state.

    I looked at being a notary in NY. Too much work for me. I'll just continue to pay the single fee anytime I need something simple notarized.

    I was a notary in NJ. All I had to do was sign a form and get my boss to sign a form stating that I was not a degenerate. I mailed the forms & a check to the some state representative and bam… I was a notary

    You should also check with the secretary of state to see what requirements they have in your state, In Louisiana notaries have to be bonded as well.
