Looking for a little direction……am a recently licensed CPA and although I’ve chosen the best time to apply for openings :/ not having much luck with top accounting firms. Not even just the top 10 firms, more like top 50 or 100. So, I have two questions:

    1) Are cover letters extinct? I was told no one reads them anymore and have just been sending a resume.

    2) A common concern when applying is it appears all bottom tier, entry level positions for reputable firms are reserved for aristocratic college grads. On the flip side, me having only 16 months as a Staff I in public feels insufficient for a senior position. Haven’t had much luck with “Staff II” or “In Charge” applications either. Any advice on how to break back into a decent public firm?

Also, best of luck to all those studying this summer!
