    Hello guys,

Have an offer with a Big 4 in southwest, but due to Covid-19 my EAD has been delayed and I can’t start working yet. Do you think they are flexible into pushing the start date to let’s say September? Anyone else has been in my shoes? Chances of getting the offer rescinded ?

Every situation is different and it will highly depends on your job office location, combined with how willing they want to take you.

I'm not sure how willing they will do it for September. I'll say April to June is more realistic.

If you are offered on campus recruit they might be able to place you on the next round in June…If they regularly recruit people in your position. You might not be place in the same office.

If you are a high professional and they desperately need you, they will be willing to take the extra step to negotiate.

On top of HR and supply vs. demand, I'll say the biggest problem is your EAD status. There's no guarantee. With a lot of mix factors, you could get it tomorrow,or be push back for several years.

If Big 4 is the one sponsoring you, then you should consult them. You will not be the only one. If you are waiting for some other EAD not sponsor by employer, then they might not be able to do anything.

You are also in a race of being not needed. As economy go downwards employer cut jobs.

I would recommend you reach out to your recruiter and let her know of the delays, if it doesn’t give a lot of personal information include a screenshot of the last message regarding the delays with the EAD and ask the question on whether you can move your start date due to these circumstances that are beyond your control.

I would also advise you reach out to the Partner or Director who interviewed you and let them know the challenges, also let them know you have communicated it to the recruiter.

Starts dates been pushed down for a multitude of reasons. Communicate early, and let your network (even though now very small) at the firm know what the circumstances are, and communicate your new preferred start date.

The earlier you talk to HR the better. If Big 4 is the one sponsoring you, about 200 people will be on the same boat and they will do something. If Big 4 is NOT the one sponsoring you, HR might still be able to fit you in the next recruit round. They might just delay the offer, or going around and see if any other department is willing to take you (assuming you are willing to go to another department / office).

If none worked well and you are unable to keep the offer, then you know you will have another 9 months to find another job.
