Hey guys I just got a great opportunity to do some consulting/bookkeeping work on the side from my day to day job, my only problem is that I don’t know what to charge…does anyone have an idea on this? Thanks.

I am in a rural area and it is for an agricultural based business if that makes any difference on your opinion. 🙂

I am in the same type of area and charge $35/hour. I have talked to a few accountants and they believe I should be at $65/hour as I have many years experience now. I have not graduated yet so I have left it and keep busy.

    Here we go......?

    REG - April 06, 2013 PASSED
    AUD
    FAR
    BEC

Depends on the area. Bookkeeping work isn't really worth more than $25-$35/hour, no matter where you are. Actual consulting ranges, but don't be too greedy early on. Easily $60/hour is reasonable.

    REG - 97
    BEC - 82
    FAR - 86
    AUD - 96 ... DONE!

I just took a job with a non-profit for a second part time job. I will be the bookkeeper and prepare their 990. I am getting $15/hour. I feel a little jipped. LOl. Actually, I think that they can't pay much, so, I am greatful for that.

    REG - 85
    BEC - 79
    AUD - 82
    FAR - 87

I think this is the trend right now. I saw an ad in Denver Craig's list this week for a receptionist/bookkeeper at a CPA firm, who they wanted to do the general office accounting, payroll, etc., and it was $8-12 per hour, depending on experience. I'm trying to decide how long to hold out for something that pays a decent wage for 1-2 years of experience, and having passed the CPA exam. It is rough out there.

I personally would take any job I could get right now if I were looking. There is overwhelming evidence that the economy is highly distressed, nowhere near a growth phase, and there will be high unemployment for a long, long time. If you take a job paying $8-$12/hr right now at a cpa firm, I think you have a much better chance of promoting within in the near future, rather than finding a better paying job in the near future.

    AUD - 81, BEC - 74, 80, FAR - 82, REG - 81
    Done!

It's tough I would say. I have a college degree in accounting, and MBA and I am doing collections. Isn't it depressing? I ‘ve had it, believe me! That' s why I decided to kill the becker books. I have been studying today and yesterday about 12 hrs maybe more on AUD. I'm not playing games anymore. I want to be a CPA asap. Cannot wait to put my grades here like you do! I planned to go to NY in oct for AUD (I don't want to take the chance to be a CPA in Ohio ans still unemployed or… collector).

But I guess I have to study BEC too (or FAR) because I need 2 months to get the paperwork done to sit for exam. I am affraid to pay unless I do not know at least 2 books. I miss my accounting job.
