    Outing Zero Hedge

    By Tom Lindmark|Aug 21, 2009, 2:44 PM|Author's Website

Regular readers of this blog will know that I am not a fan of the blog Zero Hedge. In my opinion it tends to sensationalize based on meager and sometimes flat out wrong data. In short, I find it adds little to reasoned discourse about events and issues.

Given its penchant for being over-the-top and the anonymity of its author it was probably inevitable that someone would start poking around to see who was behind the blog. So, it’s not a surprise to see this in the New York Post:

believe what you will. You believe we are on the path to recovery and your 401K is going to skyrocket, so be it. You are flat out wrong imo. But go ahead and go long.

    The Dow Zero Insurgency

The nothing-can-be-believed chaos of the financial crisis created a golden opportunity for a blog run by a mysterious ex-hedge-funder with a dodgy past and conspiracy theories to burn.

Wall Street is about speculation, and Wall Street blogs are no different. At this point, Zero Hedge has staked everything on a doomsday scenario, a takedown of the old order, “a deleveraging at every level of modern society.” Even as the market has improved, the economy has shown glimmers of stability, and many of his fellow bears have capitulated, Ivandjiiski has clung ever more tightly to his convictions. The manipulation of the market will eventually fail, he believes, and the pyramid scheme will be exposed for all to see. But it better happen soon or Zero Hedge may lose its mojo.

Zero Hedge posts tons of articles written by other people, along w/ technical analysis, data, statistics, and facts. it is also only one of the blogs which I read. Many of the blogs talk about the same things.

Like I said, I 110% fully disagree with you. If you want to live in denial and fantasy land and pretend some article trying to discredit a blog will change reality, then so be it. You will lose your shirt if you are investing right now. I don't care if you believe me or not. Frankly I think people deserve to suffer the consequences of their errors and mistakes.

I'm invested in a wide range of stocks, and always make money…more lately….

The key is you have to know how to invest…the big institutional investor can't move as fast as I can in buying and trading, using call options and puts.

But if you would like to get started, I hightly recommend the following site for anyone to get started:

    https://www.investools.com/

remember, learn how to play the game….

and you still haven't wished me luck for AUD that I'm taking on May 30th…

I don't want to learn how to invest from you…I think you are going to lose a lot of money. I just want to know what you are invested in.

    good luck on aud

BTW you may want to do some research on high frequency trading…

“OMG, financeguy, do you have any independent thinking of your own?”

NJCPASB – has it ever occured to you that probably none of the “information” you have came from independent thinking. There are very few people who think independently with no external stimulus. Most new ideas are a variation on a theme. I know you are an “independent thinker” but aren't you singing the same tune of some of the blogs you follow, textbooks you read, bosses you work for, etc?

This is such a frivolous argument. You must be a Democrat! I'm no Sarah Palin nut, but the change we can believe in is beginning to look a lot like George W Bush's last year in power. Although, nobody then said “We need to pass it to find out what is in it.” How's that working out for ya so far?

    Delinquencies and Foreclosures Rise Again

Data just released by the Mortgage Bankers' Assn show that more than one-tenth of all US mortgages are delinquent, a new record high. Homes in foreclosure edge up slightly as well. One caveat: the increases are driven by seasonal adjustment, which should probably be taken with a grain of salt given the huge shifts in this sector over the past few years.

    Mortgage delinquencies: 10.06% in Q1 (Q4: 9.47%).

    Mortgages in foreclosure: 4.63% in Q1 (Q4: 4.58%).

    KEY POINTS:

    1. The Mortgage Bankers' Assn Q1 report shows a further rise in delinquent mortgages, even in the 30-60 day range, somewhat surprising given the improvement in the economy and labor market in recent months. The increases are spread among both fixed and adjustable-rate mortgages, both prime and subprime; only FHA mortgages saw a lower delinquency rate than the prior quarter. One issue here is that the delinquency figures incorporate a positive seasonal adjustment, which should probably be taken with a grain of salt given the seismic shifts in this sector over the past few years (in fact, the MBA itself notes this issue; see https://www.mbaa.org/NewsandMedia/PressCenter/72906.htm). Before seasonal adjustment, the figures generally show improvement.

    2. New foreclosures continue at a substantial rate of 1.23%, the 9th consecutive quarter where at least 1% of mortgages went into foreclosure. The total inventory of foreclosures (non-seasonally adjusted) rose to 4.63% of the stock of housing in the MBA's survey (just over 2 million homes in foreclosure).

    GREEN SHOOTS!!!
