Hi all 29 y/o who would love some advice here and has not passed a part yet :(. I’m almost reaching my state’s two year requirement for the CPA to sign off on while working with a small CPA firm (first public job after working in AP/AR for 3 years). Unfortunately I’m at a breaking point where I’m studying and more work has been put on my plate after about half of the team has been let go or left with no signs to hire more people in the near future and I’m worried that being unable to do it all will lead to me getting fired which I have seen isn’t at all uncommon.

So my “stupid question” is if I leave and go private (lots of opportunities with being just outside of NYC) and work underneath a CPA will he/she be able to sign off on all my work up to that point? I’d love to stay where I am because I like the people however since I began it feels like a series of unfortunate events that has lead to a lot of unwanted stress for what I’m making.

Also how many of you/people you know went from public accounting to a role like FP&A or something finance related? Curious if that is also a possibility outside of just accounting work.

Really appreciate any and all responses I know somebody here has been in my shoes or know someone who was.
