So I am READY to leave my firm of 20 or so accountants, and move on to a larger firm. It’s been my plan since late 2019 to leave after this tax season, which was extended and different from all others due to Covid.

I’m wondering when the mid tier firms will start their hiring process? I’m a 1-1.5 year associate looking for an experienced associate position in a mid tier firm. I was certain with having passed the exams and having over a year of experience I would have an advantage in the public accounting market. But now I don’t know since many won’t be ready to quit public as the economy has certainly tanked.

Could anyone working in mid-tier or large firms provide some insight of how their respective firms are doing in terms of staffing needs and wanting to hire after the season please?

Have you received your license yet? Be sure to get your experience verified and your license issued before you move on. I am in CO and firms are hiring.

My firm did sign off, and I completed the paperwork on my end, however the NY state board takes a few months.

I do not believe waiting until the license is complete would make much of a difference.
