Has anyone taken this exam? How does it compare to CPA exam?

Pre-K vs AP Calculus. Get the practice questions distributed by the ACFE, and you'll be fine. I probably spent two weeks studying for all 4 sections.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if external audit is adequate for the experience requirement?

I believe so, but double check. The ACFE is pretty strict with the experience requirement – it has to be directly related to fraud, which I would makes audit count.

I think there may be some confusion the CFF is a forensic certification offered through the AICPA for people who already have a CPA, the ACFE is the organization that administers the CFE.

    AUD - 2/2013 - Passed!
    BEC - 5/2013 - Passed!
    FAR - 8/2013 - Passed!
    REG - 11/2013 - Passed!

@Jaredo, right… the one issued by AICPA for those already having a CPA is the CFF (Certified in Financial Forensics). I work in forensic accounting at a public accounting firm, and have heard mixed stories about the CFF. It seems like the younger senior managers are all in favor of the CFF, whereas the older crowd (often coming from law enforcement) think it is a joke.

Also, from our client's perspective, as well as corporate recruiters, I think most people are familiar with the CFE as the forensic certification.

I would absolutely agree the CFE is much more widely known and respected, the OP had just asked about the CFF and I just wanted to make sure they understood the ACFE didn't issue that certificate.

Hey, sorry!!! I just re-read the subject line and realize the original question was about the CFF. My responses were in regards to the CFE. Woops… (eyes are starting to play tricks on me)

    From what I've been told:

-CFE is more recognizable, and HR loves to look for these when hiring. The exam itself is not that difficult, and is more high level than detailed questions on methods, etc.

-People who work in the profession and are in the know, see the CFF as bringing more value. It's more difficult, the experience requirements are tougher, and it shows you have understanding of some concepts that the CFE doesn't cover.
