    NINJA Question –

I just started with Ninja BEC…after starting over and not wanting to pay for Becker again and seeing all the awesome comments here (and having been happy with the audio). But I’m only part way through the second chapter and have noticed some areas are blank, there are typos and at least one example doesn’t match with one of the questions in the multiple choice section. Albeit small things, it doesn’t exactly boost my confidence in the product. Can anyone that’s used Ninja AFTER having used Becker give me some feedback? I really don’t want to purchase more materials at this stage and all of my Becker stuff is out of date.

    THANKS

    Here's the question:

An individual had been working for a firm that supplies parts to the automotive industry. In which of the following circumstances would be said that the individual was structurally unemployed?
    BOOK answers:

    A. “I was laid off because there is a recession in the auto industry.”

    B. “I was laid off due to the model changeover at the auto plant.”

    C. :I was laid off because my company shifted production to a plant in China.” RIGHT ANSWER

D.: “I was laid off because my firm installed robotic technology that allowed them to reduce production costs.”

    MCQ ANSWERS

    A. “I was laid off because there is a recession in the auto industry.”

    B. “I was laid off due to the model changeover at the auto plant.”

    C. “I was laid off because my firm installed robotic technology that allowed them to reduce production costs.” RIGHT ANSWER

    D. “I was laid off because my company closed my plant.”

Now I get why the MCQ answer is right because it's related to skills demanded, but the Book's application has the same answer, which is says isn't correct and the explanation is that the worker cannot feasibly move to China where similar jobs may be available…. is this just a scenario of which answer is better given two different options because they like to trick us or was this application copied incorrectly?

Also, can anyone confirm that these MCQ were taken from past exams like in Becker? I've been out of the game about a year and a half now but some of these practice questions don't seem similarly worded.

Hello – the MCQ example puzzles me…it looks like we updated the question in the MCQ, but not the book. Thank you for letting me know…I'll get that one fixed.

As far as blank spaces and typos – I'm not sure about those, but as a former copy editor back in the day, they drive me nuts, so I take them seriously.

I'd be grateful if you could send me a screenshot of some at jeff@another71.com

NINJA MCQ comes from the AICPA and we have a license for the questions. We only use AICPA-licensed questions.

Monikernc recently passed using only NINJA Book and MCQ for AUD (93) and hundreds of people have used the BEC book since it came out in 2014 and passed, if that helps your confidence level.

The book is designed to cover only the must-know material for the exam and sometimes there isn't an exact MCQ that goes with the material, but it's close.

i am using ninja BEC book and mcq's eclusively this go round, too. my issue with BEC is that the info covers so many topics that it is hard to build momentum for getting the info to stick.
having said that – if you go section by section in the book and then do custom sessions in the mcq's and read everything that comes up with the response to the questions all the info necessary to grasp the concept is there.
the ninja book is bare bones, not sugar coated, essentials that presents the info to get you to the mcq's. the mcq's are another learning tool and they will present additional info and allow you to apply the concepts, in gritty detail.
this is not hand holding review – this is let's bear down and dig into what i will see on the exam.
i am struggling with BEC but it is not because the info isn't in the materials. it is because this info covers so many topics, as i said. i feel like i am getting my mba again in a six week crash course.
if you tell Jeff where errors are he will get them fixed. as far as i know, i can't email Mr Gleim or Becker or even Roger directly, or post to a forum, with questions or comments and get a personal response from them. and at these prices!!!

Great, thanks for the quick response! The other errors have been very minor typos but I just didn't want it to be representative of bigger errors when I'm just getting started. When I do my second “quick” review of the chapter later this week/early next week, I will be sure to send them to you!

Thanks for that, monikernc. Since I've sat the exams before I have a feel for what to expect being based mainly on the MCQ. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't somehow using the “Notes” rather than the “Book” and so far it's just so different from Becker, which I used for almost 2 years (gulp). I appreciate there not being any fluff as I like to type all of my notes and then dwindle them down to a cheat sheet (or 5) in the days leading up to the exam so the less editing/re-reading I have to do, the more time I can spend on redoing MCQ.
Did you use Ninja just for FAR as well? I'll be joining the BEC study group soon – I'm just on my second day in, taking the exam mid-Feb so don't want to be intimidated by questions I'm not ready to review yet 🙂

Use the mcq's as a learning tool as you go through the book. Dont be afraid of low scores. That is what the missed questions feature is for and the trending score will improve as you start to grasp and answer more questions correctly. BEC is like eating an elephant. Take it one bite a time. You'll be fine.
I used ninja mcq for far but honestly, i was so well prepared from being in school that far required very little other prep. Audit i did in 8 weeks with ninja. I was ready after 6 but couldn't get a date/time to sit, so i just kept hitting the mcq's and sims. I did also read some of the actual standards as supplemental material and to prep for sims.

Awesome. I wish I sat these exams out of school! Are you working as well? I'll be studying every day for several hours aside from my duties to friends when it comes to new babies and weddings! Tis the season…
