FAR Experience & Venting

Took it today and this was the absolute worst exam I have taken thus far! 1st testlet was sooo many computations. Second testlet was easier (you know what that means, lol). Also the sims were the part that were ABSOLUTELY terrible. This was the 1st time ever that I got ALL sims that were “type in the #”. I got ZERO sims where you get “drop downs” (except for the Journal Entry part). I left not wanting to be a CPA anymore. (I have passed 2 sections so far though). Also, way too much info. on the support docs. of the sims. I am strongly considering doing something else other than accounting. I have been on this journey too long and it’s taken a toll on me mentally and I do not feel like I even want this anymore. Everyday after work and every weekend I sit and study for this dumb thing. Rant over….

I am not “one of those” that say it was hard and get like a 80 or 90 something. I left 3 sims blank and left with 45 mins left on the clock.

@SuperCPA I totally get it…I just took FAR on the 31st for the FIFTH time, no kidding, FIVE! I have passed the others, BEC on the first try and the other two on the second. FAR continues to f**k with me and I know the material. The first time I took it I bombed with 57, then I got 73 and then 57 again! The third test was a lot like what you are describing, I was so frustrated I let it mentally beat me and I didn't finish it. This last one is the difference between me being DONE, or taking BEC over again (along with FAR of course) I can't even say I feel like I failed or passed! I finished it as the timer hit zero. Mcqs were okay, felt good, my first SIM testlet had a research question that was WAY out there so I don't know if I found it. I usually find them right away and of course the one I can't find is the very first SIM. Didn't spend too much time on it for that reason…the second SIM was heaven sent and one I was hoping for so I know that one was 100% perfect. I didn't feel lost on the others, but it's hard to gauge how I did. I felt like I knew what I was doing so we'll see.

I can't imagine having to do it AGAIN after this, though…ugh. Good luck to us all!

I forgot to add that my fourth try at FAR (December 2018) was a 72…that hurt. 🙁

I also took FAR yesterday. I've passed all the other exams, they've expired, except I have an active BEC credit from the end of 2018. I felt good about the MC, but I agree on the computations.

The sims were terrible for me. I know I got the research right, but on about half of the others, I felt like I was shooting in the dark. So rough. We'll see, sometimes I'm harder on myself than I need to be. Crossing my fingers. If not, moving on to the next one.

I feel you. I have previously passed BEC and let it expire due to life issues. I started over and have now passed REG. Just re-took BEC yesterday and feel like the test is just getting more and ore random every time I take one. The BEC SIMS were just basically who could sift through multiple documents and hopefully understand what the test was asking for. To me that is not the best way to test ones knowledge of the material.

I really think this test is mostly a revenue racket. They must make a fortune on retake fees.
