Faulty Test

Was wondering if anyone else has come across this problem at a Prometric testing site… I took FAR on August 29th in Washington, DC and when I reached the simulations, some of the information that they provide in a spreadsheet form was hidden (like when a cell in Excel is not fully showing when the text is wrapped)– causing me to not be able to read the entire question or information.

The Prometric person said “Oh yeah… This has been happening lately. It’s something wrong with the formatting and we can’t do anything about it.” so he gave me a ticket number and sent me on my way. This problem was on three separate sims out of the seven and I was so frazzled by then that I did not even get to finish them.

I called Prometric, they told me to call NASBA, NASBA told me to call the Virginia Board of Accountancy and the VA BOA told me to send them an email. I received a short email back from NASBA Customer Care stating “Due to the difficulties that you experienced during your recent FAR examination it has been determined that you are eligible for a free retest. If after you receive your score you find that you did not pass you have 30 days to contact us to request a new NTS for the FAR section at no cost to you.”

I cannot believe after three months of preparing and PAYING to take a faulty test, that I will now have to retake the exam. I decided to send an email back asking them how the result was determined and basically asking how an appeal process for this would work, but I have not received anything back from them. I’m so frustrated and angry because this was my third time taking FAR and I was sure that the third time was the charm!! :-*[

Wait, have you seen whether you passed?

It sounds to me you CAN retake it if you don't pass. If you pass you have no worries.

NIU CPA Review Correspondence is awesome!

I passed all four sections on the first attempt

Um, it sounds like if your score is a passing score, you keep it. And if it is a failing score, you get a free re-test.

Seems to be a win-win for you given your situation.

    FAR: 87
    AUD: 86
    BEC: 86
    REG: 84! Officially Done!

I'm really very sorry this happened to you. I agree with the above, if you passed, hooray but if you failed you will need to retake the exam on their dime. There really seems to be nothing to appeal, the only thing they re-examine when you request an appeal is that they graded the exam correctly. If the faulty computer caused your answers to be incorrect, unfortunately they are incorrect. Otherwise their hands are tied and they cant in any way adjust your score.

I hope to hear you passed and are worrying for nothing.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75
