Ok, I could use some serious chat/advice/well-wishes/realistic talk. I took FAR (for the severalth time) Friday and felt pretty good on the first multiple choice, decently good on the second, felt that I scored 100% on testlet 3 (2 sims), but then really bombed the next 3 sims (honestly, I was really caught off guard), and did moderately decent on the last 3 sims. So, really, at the end of the day, I felt like MC would carry me pretty far but feeling like a 50% that I am sure I answered correctly on sims may lead to a no-pass score.

I know that nobody knows how the final score is really calculated but I guess what is the least bad you can perform on sims to not completely blow it?

(This comes from someone who has scored multiple 74s and 73s on other exams so I know what it's like to be close and not pass and lose all hope)

I did not feel as good as you on the mcq and confident on 3 sims including the research and partial credit on a couple others and got a 76. you definitely got a chance.

Relax, you have a very good chance of passing, when I retook FAR, I was sure that I failed, but end up passing.

You passed man, have faith. However, it does have a formidable scoring syetem. The max point you can receive for both mcq and sims are 50 points. Lets say you get 50 points on mcq, this means that you need to get 25points on sims to pass. In other words you need to get half of the sims right to pass. Bottom line is the test is difficult

To those who are still studying, my advice.

Do you not spend days, hours, weeks memorizing the most intense ways of solving difficult problems. I found that I would get tripped over over intensely worded and complicated review questions when the questions on the exam are a lot easier. Having the foundation was very important to me.

Review the answers first and remove at least 2 of them. That helped me make educated guesses.

I did NOT spend a lot of time studying the simulations. That may be controversial but I figured that the amount of time I spent studying other areas would ultimately teach me how to solve the parts of the simulations.

Also, I went through every section of the Wiley FAR study material and HAND WROTE notes, and took questions in every section until I got them right. Repetition helps.

Also, do NOT shut yourself in a room all day, all night, every day, every night. I took time out to eat dinner, go out and be social, spend time with my dog, etc. You NEED the mental breaks or you will get fatigue.

I had to take it 4x and went 49>61>68>76. It's DONE.

GOOD LUCK to those and I will be your fiercest advocate.

Thanks for the tips! I failed with a 60 and have an idea of what I need to do next time around. So true about the difficulty of problems in study material vs the actual exam mcq. Fairly straightforward on the exam. Foundation is definitely key. That's part of my strategy next time too– have to get through the entire study material before I actually schedule my exam. Otherwise I freak out towards the end and find it hard to concentrate.

@F – honestly, I would say SCHEDULE the exam then make sure you create a study plan that matches it. If you postpone scheduling the test it allows you to drag it out longer. That was part of the reason I could not focus properly the first time around… I kept pushing out the deadline and it took me forever. Set the date, set a plan, and stick to it!
