I’m really starting to freak out about this process. Luckily, MOST people on this forum understand. I need to pass FAR in January, and REG in February otherwise I lose BEC. I live out of country so it’s been extremely difficult sitting for the exams, getting time off work to accommodate the travel and the expense associated with the exam, paying for flights, hotel etc., also factors in.

All the other exams had their challenges but FAR seems to just be a BEAST. For all the others, I felt like “If I Study, I will pass” but FAR is really making me question this, can I really pass on the first time? I watch the videos, take notes but then do MCQs and it’s like WTH?!

I’m not sure if thinking conceptually big picture and then drilling down might be a good approach, or focusing on things like memorizing JE’s?

This may be a bad take, but to me “If I Study, I will pass” applied to FAR the most. Yes, it is a crazy amount of material, but its pretty straightforward and for the most part you know what you will be seeing on test day. Just keep studying and making sure to review past sections regularly to keep the info fresh.

If I can pass FAR 10+ years removed from college with little financial accounting since then (basic JEs only – work in tax), anyone can if they study and have a base knowledge of accounting.

There's a lot of “difficult topics” in FAR, but the majority of the passing points are earned through the basic financial accounting areas.

Freaking out is completely normal, as are dismal scores and results when working through the MCQs the first time.
It will get better, just keep plugging along. You can do it!!

Hi! how is the studying going? I am in chapter 4 and also need to sit for my exam in January. I paid my section fees and scheduled my exam the last possible day I can sit for it- 1/27/2020. I'm using Becker. Now I am going through the lecture, skills practice, mcq and then a few of the sims for the module. Also freaked out here…

@F – It's getting better, like Recked said,just keep plugging along. When I wrote the post, the most frustrating part for me was putting all the effort into videos and note taking and getting my butt handed to me by MCQs was completely heart wrenching! However, now that I know that initially, this is somewhat normal I am have a better attitude about it.

Take a deep breath, a step back and keep plugging along, make sure you're understanding concepts.

Yeah I have the same issue. I get super frustrated and discouraged when that happens. What also helps me is to tell myself, “now is the time to make mistakes, not during the exam”.
