GuestSo i passed 4 exams for Indiana, for one of them i lost credit and it was extended. I transferred my scores to NY state where i live. The board does not want to accept an extended credit and told me to take this exam for NY state. Please help if anyone is going through the same as:
1. I think in the exam application form there is a question – have you passed this exam in another state. When you say Yes – does it prevent from processing the application form?
2. The board says that even if i get the license for Indiana state, the NY board will still tell me to retake that one exam even having a valid license.
3. Is there a way to call NASBA as noone responding to my emails. thank you!July 21, 2020 at 10:58 am #3054867CPAHOPE

Guest@CPAHOPE did you transfer the extended credit from state to state? I got the extension but another state does not want to accept it and tells me to retake an exam that is already passed.

ParticipantWhat was the expiration date of your exam? I thought all states had issued the same extension window? Could you request an extension from New York too? They may not want to honor the extension from Indiana, but surely NY has a process for reviewing and approving its own credit extensions.

Guest@Cpa2020 Indiana state is reviewing the exam scores expired during 2020. My exam expired on 3/31/2020. Indiana board reviewed and extended it.
I transferred the scores to NY board and they said they do not accept it an extended credit. They say to take this exam again but I cannot register for it as it has a credit.July 22, 2020 at 8:53 am #3055935monikernc
ParticipantHi @Nadia, sure enough, NY extended expired credits from April 1. From the NY Board’s FAQs:
As a result of the recent closure of the Prometric test sites due to COVID-19, the New York State Board for Public Accountancy has recommended to the Department that those NY jurisdiction candidates whose exam credit expired from April 1, 2020 through September 30, 2020 be granted an extension until December 31, 2020 for those applicable exam sections. Candidates do not need to contact the Department as the extension will be granted automatically. The State Board has also recommended that NY jurisdiction exam candidates who were impacted in Quarter 1 from January 2020 through March 31, 2020 due to COVID-19, will be assessed on a case by case basis. Candidates impacted during the January to March time period, need to contact the Board Office at: CPABD@nysed.gov with their full, legal name, jurisdiction and candidate ID, and provide an explanation of how they were impacted in Quarter 1 (i.e. could not travel from international location, test center closed, etc.). If approved, candidates will be granted an extension until December 31, 2020 for those applicable exam sections.
It doesn’t address transfer of grades. You can try to request an exception but ultimately is the NY board’s decision.

Guest@Monikernc thank you for your response. This is the exact email address i received a denial from. They said to go ahead and schedule a retake. I applied for NTS from NASBA however NASBA says that i have a credit for that exam. Not sure what to do further.

ParticipantNadia, you can reach out to the state's Consumer Affairs Department to file a complaint and get help from them in getting a real response from the NY Board. Consumer Affairs oversees all the boards and bureaus of the state.

Participantwhy dont you complete license for indiana then transfer that into ny?
July 22, 2020 at 3:17 pm #3056208monikernc
ParticipantI believe from what I've read on the NY Board's website that transferring a license into NY requires 4 years of experience as a licensed CPA. I would love to find out I am misreading that but it seems pretty clear.

Participantfigured it would be easier to get license in another state then transfer than have to take another test that has been passed. but thats me as i have yet to pass one

ParticipantThe states I worked with were that easy. It seems absurd to me that you can get a license in NY with 1 year of experience but to transfer your license in you need 4 years of experience. Some states are hard. CA doesn't recognize reciprocity either. It makes it tough.

ParticipantHow did you send your score to NYS? Via NASBA? NASBA should be able to confirm your scores if it expired. If it's not expired, NASBA-NYS will send you a confirmation letter by mail.
Did you actually file a license application to the NYS board? If you send your scores to the board via NASBA, you do not need to fill in the exam form.
I would think your best option is to get a hold of NASBA, or call the board in person to ask.

Guest@thunderlips i told them that i would apply for the license in IN then and transfer it, and NY Board said that they will not accept my extended score anyway even having the valid license in another state.

Guest@JFKGY i transferred my scores through NASBA store. And now on CPA central for NY i see all 4 exams as passed. But anyway Board wants me apply for a retake and it is impossible as you cannot apply for an exam that is passed, the form does not allow. I explained it to the Board but she says to talk to NASBA. and NASBA is not responding at all to any emails. If anyone has a PHONE NUMBER OF NASBA THAT THEY RESPOND TO – PLEASE SHARE WITH ME.

Guest@JFKGY Yes, i applied for the licensure with NYS. i submitted all forms, met all requirements but they do not accept an exam result that was extended by Indiana. They want me to retake it for NYS. And i cannot process NTS as all exams are marked as passed.

Participant@Nadia I passed my test many years ago and the last time I reached out to NASBA is 2015. You can try if any of these phone numbers still works, 615-880-4260 / 615-574-6511.
My guess with the board is they do not actually see your score or whatever happened and they only see a line that said “score extended by Indiana on xx date”. This might prevent them to certify that the actually score and score date is “eligible” to be approved for extension in NYS. If that's the case, NASBA can reissue an original score list and you can try to apply for a waiver… if that's the problem.
Don't quote me on this, because I have not yet apply for licensing, I have another 2 months to go until I hit the experience requirement (anxiously waiting). I'm waiting for my exp to pass and do this in one-shot (as NYS office is only 50% open).
