Letting NTS expire; reschedule exam?

I have an NTS that expires on 5/8. I have an exam scheduleD on 5/8. If I do not feel ready for that exam by 5/8 and I just do not show up for the exam, can I reapply for a new NTS and take the exam at the end of May?

If I wanted to do this, do I need to cancel my 5/8 exam ahead of time?

    Don't worry; be happy.

From what state are you from? Some states grant requests (ONE-TIME REQUEST ONLY!) to extend an expiring NTS due to some personal unforeseeable circumstances.

You’ll have to contact our state board.

When I used it the first time, I emailed them and called them on the phone. (My reason: My initial plan was to study for CPA tests full-time, but due to financial hardship, home nearing to foreclosure, and sickness in the family, I needed extra time to prepare and push my exam back.) They instructed me to cancel my appointment at Prometric so they could reset my NTS. In less than 48 hours, my NTS was extended to another 6 months.

It would cost you $35 when you change/cancel your schedule at Prometric.

    Good luck!
