Not Allowed to sit due to ID discrepancy

So I went in to sit for the Audit section today. My full legal name is Nicholas, but my signature including the signature of my license is Nick. I registered for my NTS as Nick because I knew they would be matching signatures for testing. So today I was not allowed to sit because of this discrepancy which is ridiculous in my opinion. I understand they mention the same form on the NTS, but I guess my thoughts was that it was most important how it was signed.

Has anyone had to deal with this? Do I now have to reapply for this section and repay the fee or is there someway to get credit since I didn’t even get to sit. I can’t believe how nit picky things have gotten.

They match your legal name on your license to what is listed on your NTS. It has nothing to do with what your signature looks like or how it is spelled. Your signature could be a smiley face for all they care, you simply have to reproduce it on the piece of paper when they ask you to. If your legal name is Nicholas you had to register your NTS as Nicholas, though you know that now.

Sorry this happened…I would be pissed, but the instructions are clear. You will lose your $ and have to pay again, unfortunately.

Ya I know what you are saying. I should have thought it through more thoroughly and that is indeed my fault. Just hard to believe they can be this bureaucratic. A very expensive lesson unfortunately. The bigger issue for me is still sitting for this section while the material is fresh in my head. I really hope they will at least work with me on rescheduling this as soon as possible. Sitting for BEC on Aug 30.

I would get in contact with your NASBA representative for your state. He/She might be able to help expedite a new NTS/Exam set up if you can get them on the telephone.

Again, sorry to hear it happened!

Thats a bummer but I agree with Smith.

I'm equally shocked that the registry didn't insist your signed name matched the name on your license though?

I am also wondering beyond the NTS when you applied originally for eligability, did you use Nick on that, and if so won't that cause you issues with getting your license down the road? Just putting the thought out there for you in advance….
