Hey,

My license application with Michigan’s Licensure and Regulatory Agency was just completed this morning. During the time it took them to issue it, I looked everywhere to get a feeling for how long the process would take. There are a few posts on the forum about Michigan, but nothing within the past few years that has anything detailing a timeline. So to help out any other future Michigan CPAs out there, here’s the timeline I experienced.

June 27th:
-Final CPA exam score released to me individually by NASBA
-Submitted initial application online with the state and electronically paid my fees

June 30th:
-Submitted requests with my colleges (3 in total) for official transcripts to be sent to LARA’s offices

July 2nd:
-Emailed LARA my experience verification, SSN affidavit(turned out to be unnecessary), paper application, and a listing of schools which were sending transcripts on my behalf (not required but figured it’d help them keep track of when all 3 had come in)

July 10th:
-Status on LARA’s checklist for Evidence of Education went from Unchecked to Completed

July 11th:
-Status on LARA’s checklist for Experience Verification went from Unchecked to Completed

July 16th:
-Receive congratulatory letter from NASBA on behalf of LARA stating my successful completion of the exams. Letter is dated July 11th

July 16th-20th:
-Per NASBA’s agreements with LARA, “Exam scores are received quarterly from NASBA during the 3rd week of the months of January, April, July and October for the candidates who have passed all four sections of the Uniform CPA Exam.” This can be a chokepoint in the process depending on which score release window you take your last exam in. I received no notification through the checklist that my scores were received. The July 11th update to the checklist would be the last item I got to see move from Unchecked to Completed prior to licensure

August 3rd:
-Did my morning ritual of checking LARA and was greeted with a screen showing me that my license had become active

So in total it took 36 days from final score release to active license status.

I was mostly a lurker on this board the past year, but I want to thank Jeff and all of the wonderful contributors on this forum for helping keep me sane!

Thanks for posting! I just submitted my application to LARA (passed my last exam on 12/12/18) and was wondering about how long it would take for itmes to go from unchecked to completed!
