New Becker Study Method

    Hey all,

I took FAR before the 2017 changes and got a 90. My method for Becker was to watch all lectures within a chapter and then do the MC/Sims. The new Becker method is to watch a lecture for a module of a chapter and then do the MC and repeat until that chapter is done.

Does anyone have a preference between the old and new methods? I know based on my performance that what I did worked but a major problem I had was getting bored of doing MC questions for an entire day. I think the new method tries to avoid that problem but am unsure if its effective since you’re testing yourself on something you just learned and not giving yourself time to forget.

Any tips on what those who used both the old and new study materials would be appreciated, thanks!

I loathe the new becker. LOATHE!

for one, I like to listen to lecture during my commute, (because i'm a captive audience and can't get distracted) and the way they break it up into sections — really not helpful.

for the studying — I can tell you I took reg in q1 and q2, and the exam was 2 testlets of q, and 3 testlets of sims. Brutally HARD sims.

so — for you, I'd suggest you spend some time on the questions, but make sure you know how to compute every type of problem they demonstrate, 5 different ways. pretty sure i'll be doing reg in 3q as well 🙁

@Nighoghosian It seems your previous strategy served better than good. At the end of the day you just need to pass..and learn some too =)

    My suggestion would be,
    1) try the new becker strategy…BUT
    2) ultimately study whichever way works best for you and are comfortable with.

Honestly, I would prefer watching all lectures and then practice MCQ. However, I don't retain the content as well in doing so. So I prefer the new Becker Strategy (lecture, practice, repeat, sims).

EXCEPT!! I've been thinking that I VERY MUCH DISLIKE THE NEW TEXTBOOK. It feels like the textbook is all over the place just a thought.

I like the skills update to Becker and that they are trying to spilt up super long lectures/mcqs into smaller sections. Nothing was more annoying than listening to a 1 hour ½ to 2 hour lecture then having to dive into 100+ questions. Other than that I think its alright.

I used 2016 for AUD, BEC, and my first take of REG. Currently using 2017 for REG try 2.

The new becker study method came out with about a month remaining in my studies. Based on my experience, I'm glad I went through the old program. Big reason being I hate the lectures so designating 1 or 2 days of the week to knock them out and then spend the rest of the week with MCQ's was best for me. The thought of dragging on lectures throughout the entire week and mixing in mcq's just seems awful.

Having said that, I loved the skills update feature, when I was phasing into my review stage it was great to look at the short videos and do a few questions to see where I stood on topics.

All in all, 2017 Becker is better but make sure you find what methods work best, if you are frustrated with lectures maybe knock them all out in a day or 2 like me then work through the chapter.

I didn't like the very step-intensive approach. I'd rather get all the videos out of the way at once rather than section at a time. It makes sense for some.

I like to think of this as a manufacturing job – I'm manufacturing knowledge for the exam. Ford told us how to manufacturer – do one thing at a time to completion – then go to the next thing. Less motions. More sanity for us.

With everything so interconnected, it makes sense to watch the vids from start to finish then work on probs. But that's my style and YMMV.
