Ohh and p.s. any1 using the exam as an excuse not to go to the gym – You just got the 1bentcpa “I can't believe you fucking seriously used that excuse look” … no excuses.
August 11, 2013 at 1:31 am #435262ZaqParticipantDude here. Gained about 10 lbs. over the year.
Tried to workout while studying at first. Couldn't balance it properly. So I said fugg it and just went for straight studying method, but I stick to a good diet. Though, with only one exam left out the way I've just been eating whatever the fuck I want to have enough energy to make it through the day being sure to stay very hydrated at least.
As soon as I'm done with this exam, I'm going back to the gym; my first love. Get that six pack back. All the ladies swooning over my CPA certificate + chiseled abdominals combo.
…Okay, back to studying BEC. π

August 11, 2013 at 3:41 am #435263AnonymousInactiveGonna echo what 1bent said. Cravings, dedication to hitting the gym, all about will power. Once you sack up and stick to a routine for about 2-3 weeks straight, it will be complete habit and you'll feel like crap if you miss a day. And lilla, I think that's true. It's definitely about prioritizing what makes you the happiest and most relaxed. We just as humans tend to be very vain creatures. But I mean the term fat and happy came about for a reason! Working out everyday is a grind! Haha

I thought i was the only one who gained weight. This whole CPA journey had been the most difficult academic exam ever.
It not only tests your study knowledge, but also motivation, patience, how to deal with failure.
Thanks to forum like these which helps to share mutual feelings and feel light after the day of study and study and study.
My friends and family think I am always studying , but they really dont know the depth and difficulty of these exams.

August 11, 2013 at 8:32 am #435265realworld88MemberLet me tell you guys my story…which is probably atypical in public accounting –I started off as a hopeful, enthusiastic college graduate, I weighed around 120 lbs, did well in my college courses, had the world at the top of my shoulders, and then I finally landed a promising job at a Big 4 accounting firm (which they told me was for all the best and talented workers out there)
Now 2 years later, dealing with personal stresses along with office banter/drama/etc., I'm at the same firm, I gained 30+ lbs (let's not go into it… but I am noticeably chubbier for my frame). have lost a lot of hairs, have blotchy skin, stressed, consistently staying up til late for work reasons, etc. Now I am in the midst of CPA exams, which has probably damaged my health some more… etc. I know I prob sound spoiled… you know the whole firstworldproblems ordeal, but I do feel singular and alone in my CPA exams sometimes as well as work, it's hard to deal when you have been an overachiever most of your life… not to mention, getting dumped by your boyfriend this month to top the icing on the cake (sarcasm)!

August 11, 2013 at 2:11 pm #435267AnonymousInactive@1BENTCPA LOL at the baby analogy. I might use that excuse when my mom starts making hints about grandkids or my sister about nieces and nephews – “Sorry, family, CPA was the only baby I could handle!”
@realworld88 That sucks. π Doing great in college means nothing when it comes to these exams…except that no one else will understand why they're a struggle…and having work and personal life stress on top of them just makes them a nightmare. Especially things like being dumped. But all these things can only knock you down, they can't keep you down. It sounds like there's a lot of us looking to lose 30 pounds or more when we get through these…for now, we just have to get through them!
@BobRossFan71 Yep. I don't deny that I'd like to be skinnier…but when weighing priorities, it just hasn't made the cut. I worked out a bit last night for probably honestly the first time in over a month…and even then, it was just a 10-minute type thing. Oh well…2 more tests and my priorities can re-arrange themselves again!
August 11, 2013 at 2:18 pm #435268mmp3Member12 lbs since I started studying last December:( I'm female and over 40. Sorry to say ladies but it only gets worse the older you get. I have 3 kids and a hubby who likes to see me every now and again. I can't wait to be finished with these exams! Hopefully my last one is tomorrow so I can start back to working out and eating healthy…it should only take me a year to lose it at my age lol

It gets the heart beating fast again and the energy levels back up to to allow for an extra 2-3 hours of studying.

I've put on a couple of pounds. Doesn't sound like much, but my weight has been pretty stable for the past several years because I exercise regularly and usually eat right. It's from all of the stress eating and having to sitting so much to study. It's worse since I failed AUD. ugh! Time to get a grip on it. Part of my plan is to keep some water handy.

August 12, 2013 at 9:16 pm #435272MintsRGoodParticipant@1BENT LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!! That is hysterical!!!!!! Glad to see you posting lately BTW! π
Nothing packs on the pounds like stress eating and sedentary activities quite like the CPA exam does! I've definitely put on 10 extra pounds in the past few months and it sucks! I've been forcing myself to workout on my study breaks this summer (40 minutes of study to 20 minutes of exercise) and have cleaning up my diet. I lost a few pounds initially and haven't gained or lost anything in the last few weeks, so I think that I've stopped the bleeding until after FAR. I plan on enlisting the help of a trainer to kick my ass back into shape after I have a passing FAR score in hand!!!

Who is crazy and obnoxious and has to be walked miles a day inorder to not drive me insane. He is cute, it makes up for his antics. Needless to say he forces breaks and forces exercise even when I don't want to. Then I started to get serious about studying/workingout/dog walks and how to make it all work while working full time and I am down about 25 pounds now since the scale crept up. That wont happen again. It did have to sacrifice some sleep and a social life but it was worth it to have finally passed REG and be a dress size smaller.
If you cant find time to workout for long periods do what Mints has done and break up studying with a mini workout!
