I just wanted to share here my wonderful experience with Virginia Board of Accountancy (VBOA) through the process of registering for the exam to getting the initial license issued.

In contrast to difficulties that candidates have with different state boards with licensing, I had a very good experience and I also wrote a detailed email to VBOA expressing my appreciation.

My undergrad degree is from a foreign country back in 1990. Right from my initial email exchanges with VBOA back in 2018, to getting my credentials evaluated by an approved firm to getting my NTS issued and updates at each stage, the VBOA have been wonderful. During the application process they
I even requested an extension of NTS validity even before I took the first exam and VBOA granted a 5 months extension until May 2020, on account of a death in the family. Eventually I took the first exam in March 20 and then passed the remaining 3 sections by November.

I took the Ethics test within a few days and had a colleague sign the work experience letter. I rushed to do all this because I can skip CPE course if I apply within the calendar year of passing.

I had submitted the following with my license application – a. Exam Score Forms- I merged them into 1 pdf file b. Work Experience letter signed by licensed CPA c. Ethics Test Pass Confirmation d. License Fees proof of payment e. snapshot of candidate profile showing passed f. CPE Certification form (0 hrs for initial license).

I submitted everything over the weekend. On Monday, I got an email saying my application will be processed in 2-5 business days.

By Tuesday in just 2 working days, I got my License number. Overall a really amazing experience considering some stories I read on this form. For that I am thankful to the VBOA

Start to finish it took me 2 years. If you wonder why, some explanation is in order. I got my credentials evaluated in mid-2018 and paid the initial online fee to the state board in Nov 2018. I got the ATT Authorize to test in March 2019 and just let it sit there until Oct 2019. There was death in the family and that set me back by 6 months. I got the NTS extended until May 20 and then took the first exam March 20. By November 2020 I was done.

Cheers to all others. Hang in there.
